  • I agree it's too much, but on the other hand the potential user base for the app is much lower than previously with Reddit. So I can understand it, even if I don't like it.

  • What's the difference between "Remove ads" and "Sync Ultra"?
  • The developer, TalkLittle, has made another app but it's for Tildes instead of Lemmy or Kbin. It's invite -only so quite low population even compared to Fediverse instances. Plus iirc it's only text. No images, no video, etc

  • GOP House 'informant' indicted on allegations he was an agent for China
  • Ultimately they'll spin it as this guy being framed, etc and his only chance of staying alive being fleeing to a non-extradition country. They were already implying he was disappeared, so that's not a stretch.

  • (Rumor) EVGA to withdraw from the Motherboard market ?
  • IIRC they're a totally private company and in one interview about the graphics card exit it honestly sounds like the founders/owners would rather go out of business than tarnish their reputation even by selling to someone else. So yeah it's possible they're just winding the whole thing down.

  • For Lemmy Apps
  • Yeah that's just pre-registration -- so you'll get it automatically when the first release drops.

  • The official reddit app is not even supported on my device.
  • It gets slightly annoying when you want to use a non-recommended extension (like RES). You either need to swap to Nightly or something like Fennec (on F-Droid). Then you must curate your own collection of extensions on addons.mozilla.org and finally set your browser to pull from that collection.

  • The Supreme Court May Preemptively Ban a Federal Wealth Tax
  • I could see a couple arguments. If the government argues it's an income tax under the 16th amendment you could probably argue somewhat convincingly that it is not yet income.

As a direct tax under Article I Section 8 it would probably be doomed as it would need to be subject to the rule of apportionment -- each state is required to be taxed equal to its percentage of the national population.

In order to survive you would either need to successfully argue that it is income or that it is an indirect tax (think excise taxes, customs duties, etc).

  • Feature request: hide server in community names on communities list
  • If this is available it definitely needs to be an option, and I think it probably needs to not be the default. I know I like to know which instances I'm interacting with, and I think it makes sense because that's part of the point of the Fediverse.

  • Unlike previous attempts at trying reddit alternatives (like Voat), kbin and much of the lemmyverse doesn’t seem to be plagued with extreme far right buffoonery.
  • extreme far right buffoonery

Like the title said, it basically started off with Nazism. No devolution of discussion required.

  • YouTube is testing a more aggressive approach against ad blockers
  • I noticed the YouTube Addon for Kodi has started throwing errors about age restricted videos not being available outside of official YouTube apps or the site itself.

  • Judge blocks a Florida law that would punish venues where kids can see drag shows
  • The movie thing is also quite an apt example. It is totally legal for a child to see an R-rated movie with their parent. R rated movies are allowed to have nudity, simulated sex scenes, etc etc etc. Much more inappropriate for a child than being read an age-approriate story by a drag queen or seeing someone in drag dancing and singing on stage. But this law about drag performance makes no exceptions for parental responsibility. A parent could conceivably be convicted of a misdemeanor for taking their child to a family friendly drag show.

  • Judge blocks a Florida law that would punish venues where kids can see drag shows
  • This is not actually about pornographic content. Florida already had laws to protect from actually obscene material.

Drag queen story time and drag acts that do not contain nudity are not pornographic.

  • Trump wants to keep 'communists' and ‘Marxists’ out of the US. Here’s what the law says
  • He's not afraid of any communists. The "communists" he and the Republicans want to harm are anyone that oppose them on any issue.

  • NATO leaders urge response to Wagner's alleged redeployment to Belarus
  • They've already moved nuclear weapons to Belarus with their regular forces.

  • Wagner Russian Paramilitary Chief Says His Forces Will Turn Around
  • Especially doesn't look strong when his plane took off in the middle of this whole thing for Valdai, where he has a residence.

  • r/Moustache
  • I think if I were modding one of the remaining subs I'd just keep going and make Reddit keep digging a hole. Replacing the mods for a few of the subs? No problem. For all of the protesting subs? Yeah have fun with that Reddit.

  • Reddit admins removing the NSFW tags from subs with porn in them
  • Thanks, and thanks for fighting the good fight over there. Moderation is a tough and mostly thankless task and I can't even imagine it on a community the size of r/TIHI.
