Forget the bathroom... they were on STAGE!
  • I strongly advocate for greater legal accountability for individuals in positions of power, and I am open to the possibility of future charges being brought against President Biden. It is important to acknowledge that numerous US presidents, regardless of party affiliation, probably should face charges related to war crimes. Nevertheless, I recognize the significance of establishing a precedent that former presidents are subject to the law, and I wholeheartedly support such a development.

  • ANNOUNCEMENT: defederating effective immediately from lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works
  • I was about to say the same, I have only been here a couple of days, but I like the community here, regrettably I also like the communities on some other instances. I really wish there were better solutions for this because as long as another instance can still interact with Beehaw then I may end up using that one more often. Hard to tell right now, since I expect many other instances are dealing with similar issues right now.

    >The personal data of millions of Turkish citizens, including their addresses, phone numbers and property ownership information, has been exposed on an internet website, Deutsche Welle Turkish service reported on Friday, raising serious concerns about data security.

  • This is what I would do, unless your friend is already fediverse knowledgeable. If you have knowledge about what subreddit they enjoyed the most you can use the community browser to find what instance has the largest similar community and show them that. https://browse.feddit.de

  • It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society
  • It’s okay to not be okay, no healthy person is happy all the time. Emotions have meaning and are human.

What’s more, if you are living in a place where your human rights are under attack it is those that aren’t profoundly disturbed by that who are abnormal and unhealthy.

  • A company called Atari is releasing a brand-new 2600 cartridge this year
  • Reminds me of the "Polaroid Story"

The company that owns the Polaroid brand and IP, PLR IP Holdings, LLC, was just sold by an ownership group led by the Pohlad family to an ownership group led by the Smolokowski family. The Pohlad family, which owns the Minnesota Twins baseball team, purchased its majority stake in Polaroid back in December 2014 for $70 million.

Although its iconic instant film and cameras may be out of production now, Polaroid the brand is still alive and well: through licensing agreements, a huge range of Polaroid products are still being sold in over 100,000 retail stores in over 100 countries around the world.

A growing refugee crisis is occurring in the United States, and it is getting very little coverage. I highlight the growing migration crisis, the people fleeing, and the laws they are fleeing from.

    > >As state legislatures across America proliferate anti-transgender legislation, a growing crisis is unveiling itself. Transgender individuals and their loved ones are increasingly criminalized by their home states and their care, banned. This is prompting a growing number to seek refuge elsewhere. The scale of this issue remained under wraps until a recent Data For Progress survey brought to light the unsettling reality: hundreds of thousands of transgender people have already left their home states, and more than a million are considering a similar course of action in the coming months. These transgender individuals, frequently accompanied by their families, often sacrifice their jobs and relinquish their stability to reach the sanctuary of states willing to facilitate their care and protect them under the law. Should this trend persist, we may witness the largest domestic migration crisis since the Dust Bowl upheaval of the 1940s.

  • Same, I chose Beehaw in particular because of its stance on providing a bigotry free platform... that being said as a federated service you have many options for a "home instance" but if you still want to interact with a community on another instance you will still be subject to that communities and instances policies. As a lot of people like yourself have chosen Beehaw for its safe space nature, you may miss out on communities you would feel welcomed in if you were to completely swear off Beehaw, although you do have the freedom to choose that.

  • On Politics and Forking
  • Unless you retreat the woods and recreate technologies yourself from scratch, it’s impossible to live in a modern society without benefiting from technology built on countless dead bodies in history. This makes complete sense, I also think open source and federated platforms like this give users the most autonomy from the creators of the software when compared to other platforms. I do wish there was the ability to port users and communities across instances, though, kinda like you can do with mastodon. I understand that would be hard for the developers to create, but I think it would help with the creation of a truly free platform.

Furthermore, I think some of the concern around some primary instances is a little overblown, as most of the larger ones have their own policies against bigotry and fascism. However, I understand that the type moderation between instances differs, and that is the best part about federated services.

  • Reddit communities with millions of followers plan to extend the blackout indefinitely
  • It makes sense from their perspective but still kinda shitty.

  • The real question I think is will Reddit retaliate back and forcibly recover communities and install new mods?

  • I hate all the "Whataboutism" about Biden and Clinton, personally I want more prosecutions for those in power. That aside, people need to stop deflecting the topic and talk about the prosecution that is currently happening.

If someone was on trial for murder, their defense can't be "your honor, take a moment to consider all the murders who haven't been prosecuted yet and how unfair it would be to prosecute me before them"

  • In some areas, there aren't even enough allies in medicine... that being said, though, you will sometimes find them where you least expect. Even had an old primary care physician, in my very conservative state, who clocked me as a somewhat closeted trans/nb and shared that unlike his colleagues in the same medical practice he was an ally. One who had previously cared for a trans patient in the past too. Just a reminder that there are tons of good ones out there too. 💟

  • If we all cycled like the Dutch, CO2 emissions would drop by 690 million tonnes
  • I am totally for more cycling… but imo from a policy perspective in most cities we just need more public transit and maybe some more bike lanes in areas they could help.

  • If we all cycled like the Dutch, CO2 emissions would drop by 690 million tonnes
  • As someone who once HAD to commute for a 45 car ride to work... not all commutes work with this. Public transit can help with a lot of those, but unless we rezone and rebuild most cites for shorter commutes, it won't replace all cars.
