'Stop electing stupid people': Rage as Marjorie Taylor Greene flunks American history test
  • My God, how does such an ignorant, sophomoric, and patently ignorant take have so many upvotes on Lemmy? Some of the most intelligent and kind people I know have gone into politics, but mostly have just been local.

But even at the top, without even thinking I can point to Obama who went to Harvard law.

Granted, I agree that politics does not select specifically for intelligence, as mtg among many others prove, but the idea that smart and mentally stable people don't go into politics is just ridiculously stupid.

  • Children is bugs
  • I see your point, but can't square it.

If he had said "I didn't think it mattered so I didn't think to tell her" that would make sense, but the fact that he said he deliberately hid it (ie harmless secret) means he knew she wouldn't like it. Which makes sense because I think it would be pretty common to get "no" for an answer when you ask your spouse if you can name your kid after a bug.

  • Children is bugs
  • There's nothing wrong with bugs. It's all about intent, and he clearly intended to hide this from her because he knew (correctly) it would be a problem for her. So it was a lie by withholding relevant information. About their daughters name. Its messed up. It's also dumb because it's so easy to look up the origin of a name that this "secret" isn't really one at all.

  • We coulda had Bernie...
  • "Make your country stronger so you're not beholden to the us! Omg your country is such crap."

This is what you sound like, btw. It's just shitting on America and Americans, you aren't really saying anything productive.

  • Apply this to tenant applications too
  • So the current position is that felony convictions stay on your record forever and individuals can decide whether or not to do business with these people.

You're saying that the current system is bad...but only for some crimes.

I'm pointing out that your argument as to why is arbitrary... Just "what we decide" as a society, and the current decision is that felonies, no matter what, stick around.

  • When in reality the sea levels will rise because warm water expands.

Just FYI, sea levels are going to rise primarily because much of the melting ice is not floating in the water, but land based. Thermal expansion is definitely part of it, but secondary.

  • Aspirations
  • I was an engineer is school. I've always been good at fluffing up my writing, but it always annoyed me that I had to make things longer when I felt like I was already done.

When one of my first engineering reports said "this has to be no more than 2 pages long" as opposed to "at least" I knew I had chosen the right school. Lol

  • Apply this to tenant applications too
  • So I go back to my question...does a convicted child molester finish their jail sentence and the can go and work around children? Or do we also accept that maybe, even after the person has finished their sentence, that the "punishment" continues to protect society?

If the latter, then the question becomes when this is appropriate, and not if it is ever appropriate.

  • Apply this to tenant applications too
  • I find your distinction to be arbitrary. You could argue that punishment for child sex abuse should have a beginning and an end, or you can argue that the punishment for a felony conviction does not end when you get out of prison.

I work in finance, and I certainly would not want to bring on someone who was convicted of felony security fraud working for the firm, because it ours everything in jeopardy.

  • Scientists wary of bird flu pandemic 'unfolding in slow motion'
  • Sorry, you’ve proven otherwise.

If you feel that way, then I'm sorry for giving the wrong impression. But I assure you it's not the case.

Otherwise, my reaction from now on will just be to repeatedly tell you to go away and stop harassing me.

The better way to get me to stop responding to you is to simply not respond to me; I'm not going to respond to the same post over and over again until you respond. If we are having a back-and-forth, I would hardly call that "harassment."

  • I have lots of reasons that I am critical about how you use your intelligence, but I assure you I hold no ill will towards you.

Where did you get your psychology degree from?

Nowhere, which is why I linked to a Harvard website.
