I did this today as you suggested. I pretended I was deaf and didn't even look at them when they tried waving at me and calling me. Normal employees no yellow vest either so they're not even AP. Just kept walking
Interesting insight and I have experienced what you talk about in the earlier years. I really feel like we need some sort of free community of tools and resources we can pay for together as a community either through ads or subscription or something that has a bunch of incredible tools people can use. Like $15 a month to cover all server costs for a bunch of free programs any of us could use
I don't get how we are in the year 2025, most advanced technology we have ever had in human existence.... And everything is behind a paywall. Literally everything. Whenever I search the web for a solution as an individual person, not a business or Mega Corporation, just a simple person trying to do a few creative things... Everything is behind a paywall
For example, I want to create a logo image for a personal Tableau dashboard that has a transparent background. Just a struggling person trying to find work and show what I'm capable of making. You know what I find? Everything is behind a payroll. One of the first results on Google that can actually help you is canva! But everything on canva is behind a paywall! You want to resize your document? Transparent background? Paywall. Okay then what if I go to a website to remove the background? There's lots of them on the Internet that say they are free. Sorry, those are all behind paywalls as well. You have to upload your image to them and then by credits but they don't tell you that when you get to the website....
Also, editing PDF files... Year 2025, you cannot possibly edit a PDF file for free, and most of the PDF readers out there or PDF viewers have some sort of clickbait this is free! Except that is not free, it's behind a paywall and you'll find that out eventually....
I think we are all very excited to see what AI can finally do for Humanity because I am so damn sick of everything being
Walmart near me has started using receipt checkers lately and they don't even really do their job, it's kind of a gimmick really. They just look at the receipt for a second Don't even look at your cart, but they stop you every time. It's just such a waste of my time when I'm in a hurry. I had one person even tell me that it was required by law. No it's not! There's no law in the USA that says they have to check your receipt.
I think you and a lot of others are late to the idea that mildly is kinda like a joke. Many things are majorly infuriating. On the reddit, many of their top posts aren't even major. They're catastrophic, just absurd. I've yet to find anything mild

This is the longest and most insane job posting I've ever seen. Viewing it on mobile is like 25 pages long
Sadly we can't survive on low pay. That's just death
Thanks for sharing your experience. Even if it seems insignificant, I know it must've been so hard to go through. That trauma is understandable and makes you human. I appreciate you sharing it.
I've thought about going into management too. I have 5 years in my industry. I could be manager next. But I've never been trained. Idk how to lead. Idk how to report progress, manage projects, delegate, answer questions I don't have the answers to. Lie to my employees and subordinates as to why they're average even if they're exceptional. Meets expectations, everyone gets that. So many new challenges id have to face I'm nervous about.
But then again I could just get laid off again after landing a manager job. Who knows? It's terrifying thinking about moving up
I'm sick of being laidoff. Got laid off again today, second time in 4 years in a big corporate layoff. Seems I can't ever find any respite these days. No matter how hard I work or how much I put in, just bound to be laid off and even though I've been recognized officially through merit repeatedly, these companies here in the USA just keep laying people off And then passing all the jobs on to India for 3K a year salary....
So disheartening. At this rate I might as well just retire from White collar work and go and learn a trade as a tradesman, completely redo my entire life goals
This is a very weird visual
The fact that it hasn't been banned outright in the EU is cowardice. This is such a horrible timeline we are living in. How in the world did the biggest governments in the entire world and legal systems just get cucked to the point where a literal hate platform ran by a Nazi sympathizer throwing sig heils all over the place is even allowed in Europe?
Yup There's going to be a whole lot more almost people too. Because there's no no refilling program in the USA. What are you supposed to do if you have a Masters in computer science and 5 years of experience? You can't just go back to college for a 60K degree in nursing or become an electrician or something....
Yes, I've used both on Windows 11. Unfortunately, does nothing for the User Interface size. But that's exactly what I had to do to get the original games to run before this shameless flip.
EA has done it again. They just released Sims 1 and 2 Legacy Collection on Steam, and it's nothing but a Shameless IP flip. Many players who are really passionate about old games have played Sims 1 and 2 and even Sims 3 on PC on Windows 11, even up to this day. It's a little bit more challenging because they are all on discs and you have to install them and use compatibility settings and all that stuff. But at least they run. The Legacy Collection that they released on Steam Just a Week Ago, it doesn't work. It doesn't launch, crashes constantly, there is no user interface scaling so on Modern computers, nothing gets any larger. I have an ultrawide 34401440 monitor and it is absolutely microscopic....
So you have to ask yourself, why would they release this game again, if they didn't do anything to it? They literally didn't develop anything. They didn't make it work on Windows 11, they didn't up the interface, they didn't provide new graphics. So what is it? It's a Shameless asset flip. EA flexing their intellectual property in hopes that passionate fans will bite and purchase a game that doesn't work
Sad these scams are legal
I get what you're saying, but who do you think they're going to look up to now? It's like Batman where penguin is the big head honcho, and now all the slimy underlings start to look up to him because he gets away with so much, and now everyone else wants to do the same thing because they think there's no consequences except that we have no Batman
Lol this same person once told me that he doesn't support LGBT or Black lives matter or any of that because he doesn't agree with those communities and thinks that they are hateful
Not sure about moist
What do you mean by moist? 🤔
he shouldn’t have to be an outright prick
I think he has no idea of self-perception. It seems like he is completely oblivious to it.
Jagex, devs of RuneScape, are testing how far they can push monetization without losing players. However, many long-time players are realizing they don’t want their paid game of 10+ years to turn into an ad-filled, pay-to-win nightmare.
Things that Jagex, RuneScape developer, hopes to add to the game:
- Advertisements - an ad supported plan like Hulu, so you have ads hitting you in the face while you play
- Paid account recovery - Pay more money to recover your account!
- Character Name reservations
- "special worlds" just for you! So VIP servers, paying EXTRA... for VIP servers, on a game you already pay to play
- Pay to win features - longer AFK timer to stay in the game for longer. If you pay more, you ge a longer in-game access time
- More membership price hikes - It's likely the membership price will rise AGAIN. Keep in mind, Jagex profit AFTER ALL EXPENSES has surged over 35% over past 5 years. They are stealing from their players, robbing them blind
Example of their black-mirror inspired membership plans
The $32.49/month membership option for Old School RuneScape and RuneScape 3 includes:
- Access to both games.
- 2 member characters.
- Additional member characters for $10.49 per month each.
- Specialized Member Worlds.
- Character Name Reservations.
- Pre-Verified Account Recovery.
- A complimentary bond.
You ready to be nickle and dimed like going to the carwash and getting that juicy tire shine for an extra $5?
Here's a wonderful discussion post if you enjoy diving in and seeing some great points, and information: Membership Survey /r/2007scape
TL;DR: Jagex survey asking if players are ok paying an absurd amount more money for having access to customer service, ad-free gaming experience. Players went ballistic, and are finally wiseing up to how awful the company really has become.
Per the title, is Lemmy actually growing, or will it stagnate and fade into obscurity like many other similar discussion boards?
There's OSRS still, for the moment "uncorrupted", but it's basically starting fresh even when your account existed when OSRS was Runescape
Unfortunately you're a little bit behind on the times. They basically gave up on fighting bots because they know that they pay a subscription and there's no point in getting rid of them if they are a recurring source of revenue, so they quietly stopped fighting back against them and claim that it's not possible to solve the problem when they know exactly what they can do to solve it. Endgame is basically non-existent, it's literally just grinding the same exact bosses infinitely to fill out collection log or get a specific pet. That's the entire end game. They have done nothing to actually make the game more enjoyable and that's kind of a problem for people because if you've already maxed wood cutting and fishing, what's the incentive of doing it again on another account?
Us RuneScape vets who quit knew this was coming when they started playing hot potato with Jagex limited. They keep selling it to different companies, now it's owned by a shitty investment company that basically kills off the companies it buys so it owns the IP and doesn't have to keep the games alive. It can then flip the IP for huge amounts of money. But anyway... Both versions of the game are just cash grabs at this point designed to waste the maximum amount of players time
This is like you complaining about not getting a medium rare burger from mcdonalds.
lmfao careful commenting this, some "influencer" is gonna try that now and post it YouTube
Dude you're comparing something stupidly expensive like liquor to coffee. like what?? 10 years ago, you could get an iced coffee less ice, it had like 5 ice cubes in it. Now they just give you half the amount of coffee what the hell? How can you even justify that? If we're talking about some expensive top shelf liquor that costs $30-80 a bottle, sure, I get that. But this is literally sugary coffee and milk!
Are you a corporate apologist or something? cause your reply sounds like the most absurd logic ever. Back in 2010 I remember dunkin giving you more milk if you got a less ice coffee, it wasn't an automated machine.
The concept of a mental health trigger refers specifically to something that reactivates a traumatic memory and induces serious distress in the person triggered
the trauma or stress is that everything costs more now in the USA, and provides diminishing returns. This is definitely a trigger. Everything is more expensive, and every place is giving you less of it than they were a decade ago or more. When I was in high school around the 2000s-2010s, you go to a coffee shop, there was no malicious hyper-profit maximizing bullshit. $2-3 max for an iced latte or coffee, and you could just have it customized. You want more milk, less ice? Sure! Now everything is maximum cost, and no. No, we can't customize that, but it costs 250% more than it did 5 years ago. So yeah, it's triggering, and I can say it's triggering because we are FUCKING TIRED OF THIS SHIT. EVERYTHING COSTS SO MUCH MONEY. $6 for a coffee which is HALF ICE???? I can go get a huge ass bag of ice FOR $3!!!! Why am I paying SIX DOLLARS... FOR A CUP OF ICE?!?!?!?!?1?!?!?
I went to dunkin' the other day and asked for an iced latte with less ice because it's winter and I wanted less ice. They gave me a cup that was halfway full of coffee. So I asked why and they told me they press a button on a machine, it fills it halfway full with coffee and then they add ice. So when you get a medium iced latte, you're not actually getting a medium latte, you're getting a small or a kids size nowadays of coffee, and then they just fill the rest of it with ice. If you ask for less ice, no screw you, you're not getting the full amount of coffee that you paid for...
I have never heard of this in any other country. What the hell?

Honestly, just WTF is going on with the world today? Achievements in a mobile app for ordering coffee, like this is some sort of weird mobile game you play. Is this what we are looking forward to in our future?
I graduated with an information systems degree about a decade ago, and no employer has ever given me any amount of money for that degree. I have never gotten a bonus or higher pay because of it. Now, I'm seeing so many videos on TikTok and reels lately of students who graduated with a computer science degree costing them upwards of 90K, And they are all packed any huge room with like 20 employers who are hiring for like 300 jobs but there's like thousands of them...
So basically if you want a digital piece of paper that says you're "educated", you can pay $40000 > $350,000. But you'll never get any amount of money for it from employers, it won't help you find a job. It's a myth

canva fucking sucks.png < my literal screenshot filename. Anyway... Yeah, I wanted to make a circle with white fill. That's it, I gotta PAY for that. wtf?
Let's assume that in 10 years, AI has advanced absurdly, insanely fast, and is now capable of doing everything a Senior SWE can do. It can program in 15 different languages, 95% accuracy with almost no mistakes, can create entire applications in minutes, and no more engineers or SWEs are needed.... What will all the devs do? Do they just become homeless? Transition to medical field, nursing? Become tradespeople like plumbers, HVAC?
I feel like everywhere I work, we have this term, and it's become increasingly more common over the past decade as the USA becomes more and more hateful and aggressive towards the working class people... The offshore team. I really, really hate hearing about the offshore team. It's from a certain country in Asia that starts with I But I have nothing against those people that come from that country, it's simply out of concern for my well-being and my survival that it bothers me....
You look at a country like Germany, and how they have a workers council, and a country like France that has proper retirement, then you see the USA and how We have millions of computer science grads who struggle to find work, can't get a job, universities churning out new students in the tens of thousands per year... We shouldn't have an offshore team, at a company that makes billions of dollars, led by people that have so much money amassed up that they could survive for a thousand years spending millions.
It's just embarrassing, that as a society, we are so horrible to each other.
At McDonald's, I saw that their sweet tea comes from a plastic bag inside a metal container, which stays in there all day. That doesn’t seem sanitary. Then I found out some places, like Olive Garden, heat soup in plastic bags by putting them in hot water. Isn’t this like leaving a water bottle in a hot car, where plastic leaches into the liquid? How is this okay? Like, I feel like that would be so explicitly illegal in other countries. Taking a big plastic bag of soup and just throwing it in water for the plastic to obviously separate from the bag and be intermingled with the food...
It sounds a lot like poison, like it's literally poisonous. Like how is this okay in the USA?
Health insurance at its core is very simple. You put money in, you go to doctor, insurance pay doctor. But in the USA, the insurance denies everything they possibly can. Money put in doesn't ever see a doctor or your health costs, it goes right to the stockholders....
So why doesn't someone just make a non-profit health insurance company where there's no stock, no executives, just public servants and aggressive price negotiation where your medical bills are actually paid with the money put in?

Nothing more disappointing to me than seeing a game I might enjoy... and then it's only available on PC on Epic Games store. Why can't it be available on Epic, Xbox game store and Steam? It's so annoying, like you have no choice but to use Epic... which I would literally do ANYTHING not to use.

I feel like every day I come across 15-20 "AI-powered tool"s that "analyze" something, and none of them clearly state how they use data. This one seems harmless enough, put a profile in, it will scrape everything about them, all their personal information, their location, every post they ever made... Nothing can possibly go wrong aggregating all that personal info, right? No idea where this data is sent, where it's stored, who it's sold to. Kinda alarming
Used to spend most of my days playing live service games that required a huge amount of time, or big AAA titles that are critically acclaimed. For example, Fallout 4/76, Battlefield 2042, rainbow six, World of Warcraft, RuneScape, Skyrim, Destiny 2, OverWatch.... Basically any really big game that you would find on the top 20 of steam or by player count, I would spend a huge amount of time playing that. But I got pretty bored of all these really big games having overplayed them so much, and now I have no idea what to play anymore...
So I'll spend a few hours playing something, and then jump to another game and then another game and none of them give me any Joy. For example, playing 3 hours of 7 Days to Die, 10 hours of No Man's Sky, 5 hours of stardew Valley, play fortnite with a friend for 2 hours, login to World of Warcraft and get bored Within a day or two. Tried going back to Battlefield 2042 because it saw a small uptick of players....
Honestly have no idea what to play anymore. So I just bounce around trying to look for something that'll bring me some joy and don't get much luck

It's beyond insane to me that a $70 "AAAA" game (kidding, it's AAA) dips down to the absurd price of $5. I've never seen anything like it. Wish the entire Sims 4 "collection" if you can call it that was $5 total, would be incredible, or Starfield.

Three separate places I went to at 8 in the morning. Gas station, dunkin' donuts, and then a convenience store. All of them, trash is full. People wonder why they litter in the USA, there's nowhere to throw away trash when you're out. It's unbelievable People can just go to work and choose not to do their job anymore. That people see this and they don't have any problem with it, no interest at all to keep things neat and tidy and clean. Nope.
