  • Awesome! I really need to do more on Deep Dungeons. I think I've cleared level 100 on PotD (cause it was one of the moogle tomestone challenges earlier this year), but while I've unlocked HoH and Eureka I don't think I've set foot in either of them.

  • I finally got back to working on my Splendorous Tools over the weekend. Anything below the expert recipes can be done with Trained Eye now so you can insta HQ them. Found a macro to tier 3 HQ the fifth stage and another one to tier 2 HQ the final stage, so have now completed six of the eight tools. Just have culinarian and alchemist left (and my gatherers).

Also finally got to crafting my i710 sets for my level 100 jobs! So it's not just my Scholar that's geared up now, my other jobs are too (by geared up I don't mean for Savage 😅 Just at a reasonable level for everyday play).

  • Could be any number of reasons really. There's been a number of DDoS attacks against the game servers in the last year or two. Could be a group hoping for a payday from SE to stop the attacks. Could be a bunch of bored script kiddies who like the fact it gets media attention. Could be SE's still got some bad net code in the held together with duct tape engine FFXIV runs on and it's actually caused by the players 😂

Regardless, we likely won't know the specifics of what's happening as that will be kept private by the game's security team. If they feel it was bad enough we might get an apology from Yoshi-P and some free days but probably not at the moment if I were to hazard a guess. It's not day 1 savage or anything like that.

  • Definitely a possibility! A DDoS attack basically floods the servers with more information than they can process in real time, so the time it would take for any action to receive a response back from the server would be longer on account of the extra traffic.

  • I created an SMS to Email gateway back in 2011 when data was still expensive on phones and I was trying to see if I could turn an iPod Touch into an iPhone. (I was a poor student at the time, was trying to find ways to save money 😅)

Basically I had a 3G modem plugged into a Linux server that could receive the messages, a prepaid SIM card with a long life credit expiry, a domain name set up with unknown email address capturing, and some tools to handle the actual SMS part.

At the time I published the scripts I used online and apparently they're still online 😅 This is on Whirlpool which is an Australian telecommunications forum.

  • Something I realised too late to do anything about it was that I should have been stocking up on Vs and VIIs during the end of Endwalker. IXs less so because of Island Sanctuary, but I'm sure there were periods there after everyone already had their pentamelded Indagator gear where the price on those got cheap enough that it would have made sense to be buying them up in preparation for Dawntrail's launch.

Oh well, something to plan for this time around!

  • No problem! I still haven't fully worked out how it's all put together yet myself 😅 This was why I got the commission done; people who have worked out how to layer things together to make things that technically aren't in the game are wizards wielding black magic and you can't convince me otherwise.

  • Welcome! We're glad to have you here 😊

Definitely consider pentamelding your accessories though! 7.1 will likely only give us LHS gear so the accessories should be good for a couple of patches.

Failing that, just stock up on materia instead 😊

  • Oooh, I've been there for panic crafting gear 😂 Similar situation, we had someone drop out of a Savage static and had someone who could fill the spot but they weren't geared up for it. So I crafted the gear, another friend who was fairly involved in the hunt train scene and had materia to burn handled pentamelding it all and I think we had them geared up in under an hour. (Sadly that static fell apart before we cleared our first fight, but oh well).

Well done on capping your weeklies too 😊 In the grand scheme of things it's probably not going to hurt much if you don't but it's always a good feeling to have them maxed out.

  • It's like anything I suppose, we're predisposed to focus on the bad outcomes so they're the ones that stick out in our memory. I'm sure I've probably had plenty of examples of going 4/4 on a 40% chance as well.

  • Maxing all your combat jobs is still a massive achievement, well done! I have exactly 4 jobs at level 100 right now, the bare minimum I need to cover all 5 role quests 😅 (Scholar and Summoner both come from Arcanist, so you can argue it as 4 or 5 but I only had to level it once).

  • If you keep repeating it while rocking in the corner it might eventually become true... that or Stockholm Syndrome will kick in 😅

But congratulations regardless! I haven't got the time or inclination to try out Savage this tier 😅 And doing it in PF is achievement to be proud of... or a torture to survive through... but either way, well done 👍🏻

  • Well done! 👏🏻 Have you managed to unlock mentor roulette as well or just the fancy crown? (This is me right now, I need to still do 4 of the 7 EW EX fights 😅)

I still have never tried Frontlines! My PvP experience is limited to Rival Wings (which I love but only ever pops during mog tome events) and Crystaline Conflict, and for that only in unranked. What's it like as a game mode?

  • That's a good summary 😂 Personally I'm excited with what they do with all the new threads they've started to drop, but I hate the wait between patches 😭

Also as a (reformed) FFXI player I'm very much looking forward to the 7.1 patch though and the first of the FFXI Alliance Raids.

  • I'll extend that to say the randomness in the game isn't fully random. The number of times I've failed a 90%+ accurate gathering attempt in a row shouldn't be statistically possible.

That and once of Faux Hollows I got the same pattern twice in a row - thankfully I realised and I got the fox.

  • Hector Hectorson is a good place to start, he uses a top down graphic style to explain the fights. You also don't see the actual game footage as a result so you can still sort of go blind in the fight itself but still have knowledge of mechanics.

I quite like Mizzteq's video guides as well, she also uses footage from the fights which can be helpful to understand what to actually look for in game. Plus her pun game is on point 😂

There's others out there as well who also do guide content, this is by no means an exhaustive list but they're my two personal favorites.
