Voyager is my Lemmy app of choice on iOS, it mimics Apollo's layout which was my go to Reddit app. Hasn't failed me yet!
Nice! It's been great seeing people be able to progress through this latest Savage tier. I'm really looking forward to what the future tiers bring.
Nice. Unfortunately you're now at the worst music of the 4 fights (in my opinion anyway). But regardless, you're killing it! Great work!
Quiet week for me this week, although I did finally get my i720 weapon since we hit week 7 of the Arcadion being out! So my Scholar is currently sitting at an overall iLvl of 713; given I haven't done any Savage that's not too bad I don't think.
I've never tried it so don't know the answer here, but I would assume the only maintenance that a Triple Triad game would be adding new cards, no? The ruleset has been pretty static since FFVIII. I know FFXIV only has a couple of extra rules beyond that, and again, it's only getting new cards these days, not new game rules. I would have assumed the portal app would be similar.
Curious what ongoing maintenance they don't feel they can keep up with.
Oh, true! I keep forgetting about DRS. (BA too to a degree but I know someone who coordinates runs for that so it doesn't slip my mind as often). I'll have to watch for groups running it then; alliance raid savage (in whatever form it takes) sounds like a blast.
I think it's too early to write it off completely. Like we now know as a result that we have another gateway to a different reflection (we don't know which one yet obviously). Between Heritage Found now being in the weird position of being part of another reflection but now coexisting in our reality and Living Memory literally being a different reflection, we have plenty of options to explore in that space. Both in the fact that we now have an entirely new reflection to explore in the future as well as the fact that I have no doubt Y'stola will try and reverse engineer whatever tech they used to bridge their reflection with the source to try and get back to the First.
We have an entirely synthetic method of soul extraction that mimics the Aetherial Sea that as far as we know even the Allagans hadn't been able to do. The ethical questions it's raising aside, it presents some interesting narrative opportunities. We've seen souls be transferred into objects, we've seen artificial intelligence in the form of the system running Everkeep, and we have new methods for resurrection.
There's still the patch content coming too. So there's no reason that we can't still get a Beatrix cameo in the future.
The Krile part I agree with, although I get what they were trying to do with trying to hammer home the point that everyone in your group was giving something up by going forward with their plan. Wuk Lamat lost the only mother figure she'd ever known, Erinville and Kruk's lost their literal mothers (and father in Krile's case). The incursion of Everkeep into the source has just cut out a lot of people from our companions and we're not given time to process it because we have to keep going to make sure the same fate doesn't happen to anyone else. The entire second act really is all about how you can have the best laid plans in the world but sometimes it'll all go to shit regardless and you have to do your best to pick up the pieces.
The final fight against the Queen hits that point home; up to that point the WoL has been content to take a step back and let Wuk lead this show; you see this in the way they've set up duty support. This time you can use it for both the first and second trials. You're not the main character here, Wuk is, and the game acknowledges that by letting you bring all your companions into both fights. But that final fight, everything really has gone to shit. And so the WoL finally steps in, pulls out Azem's crystal and gets it done like they always do.
I guess what I'm saying is, comparing Dawntrail on its own to what came before isn't a fair comparison. Endwalker was the culmination of a decade of expansions and story. Dawntrail is the beginning of a brand new decade of stories still to come. Things like Krile being Alexandrian have plenty of time to be explored further. In the context of how everything happened, our group really didn't have time to explore what that means, not with the threat of Zoraal Ja and Sphene hanging over our heads. With those gone, I'm sure we'll be able to take that step back and spend some time on what exactly that means (hopefully during the Dawntrail patches!)
Spoilers below obviously if you haven't played DT yet.
I enjoyed it but I feel some areas were wasted. The first half where we went around learning about all the different cultures, while it got pretty predictable by the end (we find a new group, they have a problem, Koana tries to solve it with technology, Zoraal Ja tries to solve it with brute force, Bakool Ja Ja tries to be underhanded and Wuk Lamat talks to the people), it serves as a good introduction to the new world and the different races there. You have to remember that this is as much about setting up breadcrumbs for the next couple of expansions as it is the current one.
The second half of the game felt rushed though. Shaaloani feels like it exists for two reasons; to create a moment like in Shadowbringers where everyone came together to build the golem to get to Mt Gulg, and to remind you who Wuk Lamat's nursemaid was to set up the way death is treated in Sphene's realm. Heritage Found feels like an extended entrance into Solution Nine, especially since its main storyline with the resistance carries on into the main part of Solution Nine. And Living Memory feels like it's tying up loose ends too quickly, since we learn pretty quickly the whole point is to shut the area down (and then it looks so drab afterwards!)
I'm not saying I felt it was bad, I just wanted some more time with it. Hopefully the patch content addresses it to some degree.
The Arcadion raids however have been amazing 😊 And I absolutely cannot wait for the FFXI themed Alliance Raids.
Nice, well done! Always satisfying when you get through the last stage of a raid tier 😊 And the music has been top tier for this series as well (well except for M3; it's not horrible but the other three are just so good!) Enjoy your well earned rest!
Theoretically they should be as more people get more familiar with the fights and people start getting better gear from the drops!
The gear system in this game, while it does make sense once you've gotten your head around it, does have a bit of a learning curve when you're first starting out! I remember the first time I did Aglaia and didn't know about weekly limits and just started rolling on everything like I normally would in an older dungeon (gotta keep those company seals flowing!), only to discover that after getting a piece of gear for a job I very much did not play that I couldn't roll on anything else 😭
One bit of advice on levelling up with MSQ XP in Dawntrail, my experience this time around was they've balanced it for one job more than two jobs. I levelled Scholar and Warrior through Dawntrail, and I think I put virtually all of my MSQ XP into Warrior, but did the dungeons on Scholar. Was also doing my daily roulettes on Scholar as I was going through everything too.
I found using that strategy, I didn't quite have enough XP on Warrior to always hit the next level in time. If I'd levelled one job only I probably would have hit the cap a little early, but there wasn't enough XP to get two there like there was in Endwalker.
So if you plan to level both during MSQ, make sure you're also doing roulettes to supplement your XP.
I feel like that could go wrong so easily 😅
Nice. It always feels good having all of those levelled up. Not only because you can repair and meld your own gear, but just being able to craft anything you want is so satisfying.
I've been slacking on my Wachumeqimeqi quests so far. Really need to get onto that at some point 👀
Well done! I know it can vary from DC to DC but a PF clear is still an impressive effort! I'm scared to ask the next question... did you manage to get any gear from it?
Congratulations! Now I know Dawntrail is the current expansion, not Endwalker, but I know there's people here in the group that haven't gotten that far yet so I'll be somewhat vague with this question, but how satisfying was that final fight?
But seriously, well done! The EW patch content is a largely self contained story (I don't think that counts as a spoiler), and Dawntrail is the beginning of a new story arc, so you can now say you've completed the first decade long story arc in FFXIV. It's the Marvel equivalent of having just watched Endgame after having gone through everything leading up to it 😊
Now, you have a very important question coming up soon. Are you going to play through Dawntrail on Viper or Pictomancer, or stick with what you already know?
Completely get it! Just don't get too stuck in the rabbit hole that is trying to do it solo 😅 I know it's possible but it can eat away a lot of free time if it's something you decide to go for! (Or are just somewhat antisocial and trying it cause you don't need to find other people to do it with).
Well done! The book stage is the worst on those relics. Melding the materia is easy, just potentially costly if you don't have a lot stored up, and light farming is pretty mindless if you just grind Aurum Vale or something similar. You're in the home stretch now 👏🏻🎉
They did ask for that to be fair.
It's 9 hours later, hoping you ended up feeling good and not fucked beyond recognition!
