POTV xmax v3 pro
  • See I've never been a big fan of the Firefly vaporizers - I'm a clean freak and I always hated how they have the top plate with foam gaskets creating an air tight seal. Shame too because I like the design of the device overall. (The original FF1 was a heavy big ass device, but it was pretty cool to look at. The FF2 is a bit smaller and more manageable in the pocket)

  • [@trees](https://lemmy.world/c/trees) I asked AI to explain cannabis strains to me like I was five. And then this happened…
  • Lol, I often ask Chat to describe things to me like a stoned surfer bro, it's hilarious

  • POTV Lobo Just arrived - first thoughts
  • So I have an Xmax V3 pro in my collection. The Lobo has a larger oven and a better heater which doesn't quite "roast' the herb the same way as the xmax v3 pro.

I think it comes down to form factor and load sizes. If the newbie needs a big cloud chaser, I'd go for the Lobo. If they want something with no glass mouthpiece to break, the V3 pro makes more sense.

Personally between the two I'd say the Lobo is better. But it's also a bit more expensive than the V3 pro these days.

  • POTV Lobo Just arrived - first thoughts
  • Lol, yeah f*ck r_ddit - I'd much rather see this community grow in the fediverse!

    convection or conduction heating?

I'd call it a hybrid. Given the placement of the oven and the heater, it feels like it does have a small convection heater, but it benefits greatly from hybrid heating once it heats up.

    on-demand or session?

I mean I feel like without a dosing capsule you can probably treat it almost like an on-demand device, HOWEVER it's not. I'm a session guy and I'd treat this more like a session device

i need to know these things for when my milaana vape dies. i feel like the button is already getting a little sketchy. meh.

Having handled an original Milaana (and zion), this is not a Milaana. If you want to directly replace the Milaana, look into any one of the sub-ohm 510 attachment vaporizers on the market and pair it with a decent ecig battery (with subohm compatibility)

Personally, I feel this device is best suited to someone who has a POTV One and looking for an upgrade OR the average ent who has $150 to blow on a vaporizer to "test the waters" and looking for a good entry-level device which is a solid hitter. The oven size is almost too big for me, but I bet it's perfect for the first-time vaporent buying their first device trying to make the switch from smoking.

But yeah, I wouldn't put this in the same ballpark as the Milaana at all haha - that's a very different vaporizer

  • POTV Lobo Just arrived - first thoughts

So I've handled quite a few vaporizers in my time (lost count after a few dozen lol).

I was excited to get this device for a few reasons including a few new aftermarket accessories which will be on the market soon.

I've only handled the device a few times so these are initial impressions:

    Pros:

    • Nice heft in the hands - feels solid enough construction for the price. But that's expected from the manufacturer.

    • Flat base - unlike my HealthyRips Rogue which has rounded sides, this device has a flat base so it sits flush on a surface making it more stable (especially with the watertool attached)

    • Massive oven - this oven is larger than the Rogue (which is a decent size already)- it's just a smidge smaller in diameter than the S&B Dosing Capsules (maybe two or three millimeters smaller)

    • Removable 18650 battery - FINALLY!! Yes these batteries are not quite as reliable as the older LiPoly batteries they had been using in older models, but finally we have the ability to swap out batteries when you wear out a battery after 100 hours of use - it's also nice to easily swap out batteries with a precharged battery before heading out. Big win for sustainability over sealed-in batteries

    • USB-C charging - always a win. Now I can use one charger to charge both phone, and vaporizer, as well as any spare 18650 batteries I have with me (no need to lug around my Nitecore D2 on short road trips)

    • Love the upgraded slide mouthpiece. The older pop-in design used by the Rogue felt satisfying, but it was not durable and always wore-out on customers after heavy use. This new slide-in mouthpiece makes the device far more durable - I also like the added magnets for things to snap together

    • Glass mouthpiece - always a nice touch. Plus you can use other tools which slide into the same mouthpiece - including my old HealthyRips "water tool" inline vertical waterpipe which is pretty awesome for vaporbonging on vacation!

    • Fast enough heatup - from a cold start to 350F it took about 45 seconds. Seems like the temperature sensor is measuring a different spot, not exactly on the heater itself - possibly in the air chamber above the heater.. Just based on how I've seen it heatup compared to other devices made by the same manufacturer (including the rogue)

    Cons:

    • No pass-through charging. Not entirely unsurprising, but you cannot charge the device while using it. The workaround is simple: buy a few spare batteries and recharge them

    • Short Auto-off timer - feels like the unit always shuts off too fast. I wish it had a 7.5 or 10 minute timer - or the ability to disable it (maybe there is and I haven't RTFM to find out haha)

    • Minimum temperature of 320F - that's a bit high for me personally. I wish they had set it to a minimum of 300F

    • Draw restriction - feels a bit restricted which isn't terrible (and likely intentional), but I would have preferred a bit more

As other's have said, it's an upgraded HealthyRips Rogue and that's a fair assessment - it has some good upgrades (especially the swappable 18650 battery slot) which makes it a fair more durable and sustainable device.

Now to get back to some more R&D so I can finalize some new widgets!

    POTV xmax v3 pro
  • Wow! That's totally not the ones that I have for my Fury Edge. The dosing capsules I have always used have lids which pop off. I honestly have never seen any capsules which screw on like you're referring for the HealthyRips so I'd love to see photos (it's my job to keep track of all capsules on the market.... since I make loading and storage options for nearly every capsule on the market).

Funny because also my capsules both for the Fury Edge, HealthyRips Rogue, and my new POTV Lobo which just arrived today with several dozen capsules all have air holes on the bottom and top, but not the sides.

Wait, I think I know what capsules you're referring to, but I don't think they're made by the same OEM I'm referring to - I'm not sure if those were an experimental capsule, or from another manufacturer. Because I think I've seen those, but I have never had access to them personally.

All my capsules match the ones you described for the Xmax V3 Pro (minus the original HealthyRips Fury2 mini screen capsules and S&B dosing capsules)

  • POTV xmax v3 pro
  • Strange, I have an older Xmax V3 pro from at least a year ago and they fit my Fury Edge capsules with no problem. Didn't know that Xmax makes their own dedicated capsules these days.

  • POTV xmax v3 pro
  • Awesome! The Xmax V3 Pro is a heck of a nice entry-level vaporizer. I wish it would have existed ten years ago and maybe we could have converted more people to vaporizing! Lol.

I personally prefer session mode more than on-demand.

Pro tip - Fury Edge/POTV One capsules fit the oven on the Xmax v3 Pro. This makes life easier for refilling on the go. AND useful for microdosing: Put a tiny bit of herb in the oven, and then use an empty capsule (with or without cap depending on size of microdose) to hold things in place during the session. Microdosing is a great way to reduce consumption.

  • What mid-priced device should I snag next?
  • Head over to my website (Delta3DStudios.com) and fill out a contact form with some more info on the handles - that's really something I could do if I have more info about mounting (square peg, screw mount, etc).

Avb storage jar with deep debowler and lid

I already sell an insert for the Jyarz Big Papi glass-lined storage container which turns it into a portable air-tight debowler. I also sell a smaller one for the jyarz Satchmo. I could make one for a standard 8 or 16-ounce glass mason jar if that would be preferable, but I think having a dark black container to conceal the material is more preferable.

All in one boxes for the whole kit to function out of, or to store the PID and stand neatly.

Yeah, I've considered doing custom box inserts, but the problem is they tend to be a bit too "Specific" to the individual user. I'd really like to build some sort of auto-generating code where the users can build their layouts and then order custom inserts for any size box, but we're still a ways off from that dream.

Stands to hold housing neatly, or bowls. Scoops, picks, Dabbers, tamp tools, brushes, speed loaders, coil guards, coil cord management stuff.

I sell several custom "urchin style" stands which are easily customized to anyone's needs. Just message me a list of diameters for hole slots and placements and I can make it happen.

I have a dream of designing a modular organizer stand at some point, but I am still tweaking the connection pins to lock everything together - trying to keep them low-profile but still printable by my hardware.

  • What mid-priced device should I snag next?
  • I've toyed with ball vapes in their infancy long ago, but I don't have one in my personal kit yet. What sort of accessories were you thinking about? I have the ability to 3D print surgical grade stainless steel these days which has really opened up the world of possibilities. Hoping to start 3D printing ceramics again later this year or next year thanks to some recent advances in printable materials.

  • dry sift + M
  • Nice! I'm enjoying my 2020-M right now. What year is your M? I recently upgraded mine with the new Titanium helix tip and holy hell it just elevated my device to an entirely different level.

  • Firewood 9, a beautiful little piece added to my collection
  • Lol, for sure this industry has done plenty for me over the past decade - dropping some knowledge is the least I can do to give back.

Thanks, D3DS is purely a labor of love with zero corporate overlords. It started as a small side hustle, I never thought it'd turn into a global brand with customers and retail partners worldwide.

  • Firewood 9, a beautiful little piece added to my collection
  • For sure I do custom orders all the time. However my availability for custom projects varies throughout the year. This summer was very slow so I worked on a bunch of new stuff including a whole new brand for my Home & office gear (stuff not associated with dry herbal vaporizers lol). However we're leading into the fall where my wholesale partners worldwide start to stock up for the holiday season. In fact I just finished two massive jobs which required all my machines in the farm running 24/7 for over a month straight with zero downtime lol.

I need more machines, but I've run out of power in my studio and need to hire an electrician to run more power! lol

But yes, I'm totally down, here's a contact form for special order requests when you're ready - https://delta3dstudios.com/custom-order-request/

  • Firewood 9, a beautiful little piece added to my collection
  • Lucky for me, I get to claim them as a business expense because I can't test-fit products if I don't have a copy of the device for testing purposes! haha. Plus one of my friends who lives two hours north of me has a collection of essentially every vaporizer made in the past 15 years (including many that never made it to the market, either early samples, or proof of concepts which went nowhere) - he works in the industry as well.

By all means don't hesitate to ask how one device might compare to another device, because chances are I've likely played with them at some point lol

  • Firewood 9, a beautiful little piece added to my collection
  • Lots of us ents around here dry vaporize (not tobacco). Different temps allow us to extract different active compounds from the herb while preventing combustion which releases all sorts of nasty stuff like toxic carcinogenics and carbon monoxide which is worse for your health.

You'll find a lot of anecdotal evidence from ents who made the switch to vaporizing and haven't looked back.

As an added bonus, the taste/smell is MUCH better than combustion hahaha.

  • Firewood 9, a beautiful little piece added to my collection
  • I mean there are favorites but I really just enjoy all dry vaporizers and trying them out. I like an Arizer Air Max with a waterpipe adapter for an extended vaporbonging session. The Lotus vaporizer with a j-hook and a crook of water in the hook to create a natural percolator is sublime.

The LSV from 7th floor is damn near a religious experience hitting a whole gram through the long stem. But I like my XQ2 more for social gatherings and versatility, etc.

I also recently upgraded my Dynavap vapcap with their new titanium helix tip which is a work of art and has turbocharged the performance of the device. All I need now is an armored cap and it'll be an epic analog device.

Of course for niche, you can't forget about the Venus Apollo - it used a small halogen lightbulb as a RADIANT heat source! Sadly the software was too confusing and I could never master using the device.

And if you don't have one already, you should look into a subohm 510 attachment - it's always fun to surf waves of vapor/heat by pulsing heat to an oven on demand (kinda like the TM2, but a lot more customization depending on what battery you use to power the heater).

  • Firewood 9, a beautiful little piece added to my collection
  • Lol yeah 15 years ago I was right there with ya - cheap chinese vape bro's knockoff I overpaid for like $200 at the local smoke shop. It was terrible.

I have had the luxury of sampling literally countless dry vaporizers. It's been fun to watch the industry grow since those early days when it first started to "take off"

I wonder if the FW9 uses the same dosing capsules as the FW8 - I make a loading tray for that size capsule.

  • Firewood 9, a beautiful little piece added to my collection
  • I've been in the industry for over a decade. I have owned or handled countless devices in that time. However for some reason I've never had a FW in my personal collection. I really should change that haha.

The last FW I handled in fact was the Firewood4 way back in 2014/15-ish (anyone know Mephisto over on FuckCombustion? It was his - he's an awesome guy)

  • Its a really nice day out for once.
  • Have you seen the new Helix titanium cap they just released this summer? I got one and holy hell it's beautiful to look at AND it has completely changed the performance of my 2020-M (for the better).

  • Anyone else go through blunt phases?
  • Sniff the comments in this thread make me so happy. I gave up combustion over a decade ago and my body has been happier for it.

These days I only combust socially when joining old friends who don't dry vape.

  • Vape Recommendations?
  • Lol, this industry has done plenty for me over the past decade, dropping some knowledge is the least I can do to give back.

Haha yeah the MFLB is for sure a very analog experience and takes quite a bit of practice to perfect. There are some devices in my collection I just don't share with anyone who doesn't also own the same device simply because I don't want them to accidentally combust and tarnish the flavor of the device.

The MFLB Finishing grinder is a niche product but it has it's uses. I like that it locks into the notch on the MFLB when grinding so it dumps directly into the oven for you. But dang it's a PITA to grind away like that - the dryer the herb, the easier to grind with that finishing grinder. Still it is a VERY popular grinder for many conduction-style vaporizers. I actually sell aftermarket adapters to connect the MFLB to a pax (custom funnel design), or even a mason jar lid so people could fill a glass jar with ultra finely ground herb haha.

Note - there are other grinders like the Brilliantcut grinder (pricey, but damn it's a nice grinder, I have one) which have different middle plates so you can choose the grind type (fine, medium, or coarse) - just grab two middle plates and you can swap out as needed.

Or if you don't want to buy any new grinders right now and have a 3 or 4 piece grinder try this trick: Turn your grinder upside down and grind extensively before uprighting your grinder for the herb to fall through into the bottom compartment.

The MFLB actually uses radiant heating as the primary source of cooking, as opposed conduction or convection which is far more common in portable vaporizers. This is partially why it's such a popular device with a cult following more than a decade after it's release.

Generally I’m not too concerned about stealth, affordability is somewhat a factor and (maybe like most people) I like to look for something that doesn’t break the bank and gives a lot for what you pay. Portability is favorable as I can see us using it more as we frequent more places where recreational use is legal.

For many years PlanetOfTheVapes (one of my largest retail distribution partners) sold their own POTV One vaporizer (basically a customized build of a HealthyRips Fury Edge vaporizer) for $99. It was an insanely popular budget-friendly device for the company. Basically one of their top five devices still to this day. POTV just dropped an upgraded model called the Lobo which I have yet to get my hands on. But knowing the company and knowing the previous device, I'd say that the Lobo is probably a really good option for the money - it'll be MUCH easier to use.

While the MFLB may be fully analog pulsing heat to the oven, think of these temperature-regulated portables like a car on cruise control. Just set your desired temp and sip away - the heater will pulse itself as needed to maintain that temperature (within a few degrees).

You can also do some fun stuff with the Lobo since it uses dosing capsules - you can preload those and easily reload the device on the go. I also like dosing capsules for "microdosing" - toss a bit of herb in the bottom of the oven then use an EMPTY dosing capsule as a spacer to hold things in place.

  • Finally upgraded my 2020-M

I was scooping up a new Vapcap-B for a friend as a birthday gift (three days before they announced a BOGO deal on Vapcap-B's!) so I decided to shop around for upgrades for my 2020-M.

I still like the midbody design from my 2020, and the fact that this M was personally gifted to me by George (we met at a CHAMPS show in 2020, but know each other as we shared banking notes when founding our businesses in the same year). But I needed a new captive cap and really like the look of the new Titanium Helix tip so I figured why not upgrade.

REALLY liking this design, I think I like it more than my original first-gen Omnivap.

What mid-priced device should I snag next?

As I'm sure many of you can imagine, I have a lot of devices in my collection (working and not working, as I sometimes need to test-fit prototypes of custom parts or mods). Heck, a few of my collection have long since been discontinued by this point (Indica vaporizer, Pax1, Grasshopper, VapeXhale Cloud+, Mistvape, etc)

Anyway, I'm looking to grab another portable. But I can't keep up with all the new devices. I'm looking more at the popular budget to mid-priced devices. Thinking about grabbing an Xlux Roffu, although I'm open to suggestions.

Yes, I know S&B is working on releasing a new portable vaporizer in the near future but I'm not waiting for that to drop. (I already have both a crafty and a mighty in my collection lol).

What other related communities/websites are there?

I used to spend a lot of time answering newbie questions in the r/vaporents section of reddit, but I'm no longer using that app so I've been trying to fill that void over here on lemmy and elsewhere.

I'm even back on FuckCombustion.com occasionally

I mean there actually seems to be more activity on !trees (@trees for kbin users), but I'm looking more at dry vaporizing specific communities

Any interest in a metal 3D printed stem?

This community is too quiet! Let's get some chatter going!

I've been dreaming up a 3D printed stem for the Vapcap..... but I want to do a few different things that wouldn't be possible with traditional manufacturing, like hollow sections for holding safely without burning your fingers, multiple mini air-intake holes so I can adjust airflow simply by selecting how many air holes my thumb and index finger cover, etc.

I was thinking about something crazy like 3D printing pure silver or gold for that extra bling factor.

I'd love to hear some other thoughts or wishlist ideas from other ents. If you could design your ultimate dream stem, what design elements would you love to see incorporated?

I'm thinking about my classic knurl texture - I gotta add that somewhere to the design! lol
