What YouTubers did you used to watch back then but not anymore?
  • EMT does but its not the same. Show got repetitive, so I guess they changed it up, but its crap now.

  • I've been using gimp for years as a Photoshop alternative. Tons of tutorials, and I've always been able to do what I needed.

Its great that there are alternatives for those who want them!

  • What’s the strangest unexplained thing that’s happened to you ?
  • I always get 10:24. I call it the cursed time, and now my family calls it out too.

  • why do hangover symptoms come on in waves
  • I agree 2 wks to 2 months was the toughest. I associated drinking with certain activities, and it was weird to do those without drinking. Then, other things i thought would be hard, weren't. Like parties, family gatherings etc. Thought everyone would say, "hey wheres your drink!". I think in retrospect i was the only one saying that shit.

I got pretty good at dealing with hangovers. I have an iron stomach and had a pretty good routine before bed and the next morning to get over it all as fast as possible. Guess that was sign enough it was time to stop.

  • Grats! Just hit 2 years myself.

  • What email provider are you with?
  • How is the calendar basic? I use it and haven't noticed anything I want that it can't do.

  • What email provider are you with?
  • Protonmail with Blur Abine for most shopping or junk.

3 proton emails, 1 for gaming, 1 for anything with my real name, and 1 with my fake name.

  • What are some creative ways that you save money?
  • Stream pirating

  • So were on our first date. Things are going really well. I'm polite to the staff, and my fingernails are clean. You pop out of left field asking my thoughts on trans rights in the Olympics. BOOM. Red flag, I'm out.

  • [Help] Searxng - default firefox search

I've got searxng running nicely, I can successfully set it as my default search (firefox) via clicking the URL bar and adding it to my search list.

However, when i actually search, it's searching "https://192.168.1.65/search" instead of "http://192.168.1.65:8887/search". Nothing changes this for the life of me. This results in firefox's 'unable to connect' screen, since the url and http vs https are wrong.

I'm hosting locally on my network server and I have no desire to open it to the outside network.

  • Fucking Costco. Pay a membership fee to wait in the following lines to buy shit:

Parking, cart, entry, items, pay, receipt check, leave parking. You can't simple stop by for an item, its impossible..

  • What did you do to survive the night of/after a breakup?
  • I used it as fuel to make positive changes in my life. Not just breakups, but any time life throws something really awful my way, I try to make an effort to use it as a force good. Breakups, deaths, job loss, etc. Be a better you, quit smoking, get fit, learn a new skill. Things I normally wouldn't be motivated to follow through, i do.

Sorry you're going through this. Try to remember that it will get easier in time. Accept it wasn't meant to be, and know there's a version of you in the future, looking back at this knowing it was all worth it to find the person right for you.

  • Netflix confirms it is increasing subscription prices, again, after adding 8.8 million customers
  • I'm a huge privacy advocate. I'm also a cheap bastard. Kodi, with Seren, with real-debrid and trakt. $16 for 6 months of everything.

  • [Question] Back Up Strategies?

I started self-hosting recently. Getting the hang of it, and have immich and paperless-ngx running. Other stuff too, but those 2 have data i'd like to retain.

I'd like to commit to switching over to these services, and possibly others in the future, however I need to figure out back ups.

Until now, I've kept all data on my NAS, and back ups on flash drives. Some i keep here, some i keep off-site (3-2-1 strategy), all encrypted.

I'd like to follow a similar strategy, but going forward i'll likely have tons of meta data and configs associated with these files and services, which will be just as valuable to backup. Is it simple as copying a folder over, or is there popular back up strategy most people use. Again i'm new, not trying to over complicate things, but don't want all my eggs in one basket.

Noob starting first server. Installed Ubuntu server, and opted for LVM. However, will that cause me problems on a headless server if I get a power outage and need to reboot? I think yes. Is there a solution, or should i remove LVM before i go too deep setting things up?

[Help] Monitor settings reset on boot

I'm running Pop! OS. Having a problem where i need to reconfig my monitor settings every time i boot.

Hardware is GTX 1080. Monitors are as follows:

    • GPU DVI to DVI monitor
    • GPU display port to DVI monitor
    • GPU HDMI to 5.1 audio reciever, with HDMI to HDMI monitor 3.

On boot up monitors 1 and 2 are mirrored, and 3 may or may not need to be turned on and off a few times to work properly.

Everything is up to date, including OS and Nvidia drivers. I duel boot with Windows 10, and Windows works perfectly.

    [question] Python for Kids

What's the best way to teach my kid programming. I don't know how. He's interested. He's done well in school with Scratch. He's expressed interest in Python, owns a Thumby, but never gets too far on his own. Instead of a Winter sport, we're leaning towards a Python class, however there's none in person. How can i help my kid embrace his passion and learn this skill which will help him his whole life.

He's got Mu installed and has perused youtube tutorials, but they dont hold his interest. Any help is appreciated. Edit: He's 10.

[Serious] How do you smoke weed indoors without odor

There's got to be some technology that does this. No sploofs!

Currently i crack a window, put a small square fan in it, and blow my exhaust through the fan. I use a vaporizer which cuts down the smell a lot, but there is still a lingering odor the night of, and sometimes the following morning.

I would prefer no odor at all, immediately. Any help is appreciated.

[Question] Android Auto/Carplay (or alternative) with Degoogled phone?

I've been using GrapheneOS for over 2 years now. Love it. I cannot help but feel I'm missing out when i go on a road trip and have to constantly glance at my phone (OsmAnd~), instead of using the perfectly good display built into my vehicle.

Any good alternatives? I've considered using an old phone, or recently I've seen Android "AI Boxes". Both connect to the internet through bluetooth/hotspot on your phone. Not sure of the privacy implications or amount of Google in both.

Not looking for 3rd party screens or phone mounts as options.

[Question] to Linux from Windows as a daily driver

My plan is to buy an NVMe today, install linux as a dual boot, but use linux as a daily driver, to see if it meets my needs before committing to it.

My main needs are gaming, local AI (stable diffusion and oobabooga), and browser stuff.

I have experience with Mint (recently) and Ubuntu (long ago). Any problems with my plan? Will my OS choice meet my needs?

    Thanks!

    [Question] Mobile Streaming Solution?

My media center runs Kodi with real-debrid through Seren. Just wondering if there's a mobile option for streaming tv/movies as well.

Edit - Ideally something that also ties in with trakt

It didn't exist, so i made one! https://lemmy.ml/c/incremental_games

This is a niche of games with an incremental mechanism. Also known as idle games, or clicker games. Most of these are played through web or mobile, so no powerful graphics card needed, though there are some good ones available through Steam or other more traditional gaming platforms too.
