Progress vs Regress
  • Yes, but don't forget that you usually had 4-8 people per household, if not more, so its not like everyone is getting their very own individual television.

Also I wasn't saying that television was massive, I said the concept of them were and there was immense research and development into the technology. Effort that was redirected because of the war. There was great interest into the technology and as soon as production was shifted from military to civilian goods, the number skyrocketed.

"In 1946, 7,000 TV sets were sold; in 1948, 172,000 sets were sold; and in 1950, 5 million sets were sold. In the year 1950 per the United States Census, just under 20 percent of American homes contained a TV set, but by 1960 the figure had reached 90 percent." -Encyclopedia Britannica.

  • I did Barbenheimer: Ask Me Anything
  • They already did. Look at what they're trying to do with the upcoming Saw and Paw Patrol movie. Its laughable and everyone can blatantly see what they're doing.

  • I did Barbenheimer: Ask Me Anything
  • Honestly, I'm willing to somewhat believe that this was natural. It just feels... obvious when its forced.

For example with the new Saw and Paw Patrol movie they tried doing the same thing and it failed horrifically.

Also Barbie was purposefully given that release date in order to attempt to screw Nolan over, as Barbie was made by a studio that has bad blood with him, and they specifically waited for him to release a date for Oppenheimer. It doesn't make much sense for that studio to then try and give Oppen free advertising.

  • Progress vs Regress
  • Woof, TV’s were already a popular concept before WW2 in the US, but their development was halted by the war. However once the war ended, television exploded in popularity with the establishment of a dedicated signal network, and it was a staple item in almost all homes by the mid/late 40’s.

The South African regime was good if you were a Boer emerald mine owner. If you were anyone else? Not so much.

  • You can build your own AM radio in less then an hour with a large metallic object (car, bike, large piece of scrap metal, basketball pole), some aluminum foil, a small piece of copper, a battery, and any sort of speaker.

It’s a pretty common childhood science experiment where I am to build functional jerryrigged radio.

But you are right, building functional AM radios was and is pretty common for how cheap the components are. Plus I’m pretty sure I can still go to a store and buy a small working radio for less then 20 bucks.

  • I am getting real fucking tired of Eurocentrism in art
  • Stanisław Lem Is a more contemporary author, but his work with Sci-Fi and futurism has been legendary and has influenced the entire genre significantly.

He anticipated things such as of virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and created ideas such as human autoevolution, and the creation of artificial worlds.

  • I am getting real fucking tired of Eurocentrism in art
  • Jan Matejko?

His painting “Stańczyk” is very famous among western art circles. He is commonly listed alongside Rembrandt as both being masters of shadows and emotional oil scenes.

  • Progress vs Regress
  • By the 50’s it was extremely customary for most homes to have a TV and at the VERY LEAST a radio if they weren’t very well off. Radios were dirt cheap.

You’re making the 50’s sound like the 1920’s.

  • PROLITARIAT W
  • No, that’s how Earnhardt was. He was very down to Earth, honest, and very class conscious. He also was very open minded and admitted his faults, for example his son told a story where Earnhardt used to have a confederate flag sticker on his truck because he viewed it as part of his culture and no one had ever challenged it, as he had grown up in the deep deep poverty stricken part of the South. He had a black housekeeper ask him why he had it, and talked with him for roughly 10 minutes as to what that symbol represents for the black community.

With no pushback and no questions asked, Earnhardt immediately spent several hours with a razor blade and soap, scratching off every atom of the sticker.

He then refused to take money from any sponsor who flew the confederate flag at races (which was really common in the 80’s-90’s)

  • Can anyone recommend any Soviet cartoons?
  • Same here, Ну, погоди! and Крокодил Гена were a massive part of my childhood, and they are absolutely incredible.

I still go back and listen to his birthday song each year on my birthday.

  • PROLITARIAT W
  • An ultra-based proletariat working man who rose from poverty to become one of the greatest racers the world has ever seen. Even as he made tens of millions, he lived an extremely simple life with little luxury, and never forgot where he came from or what his class was.

If you would like an extremely well done documentary on Earnhart's life and NASCAR as a whole, I would recommend this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxTAJNifDAI

  • Can anyone recommend any Soviet cartoons?
  • Gena the Crocodile

An extremely wholesome and heartwarming series about an anthropomorphic alligator who works at the zoo and wants nothing more then to make some friends. The humor is very well done.

The songs are also beyond catchy.

  • Nikki Haley tosses an alley-oop to Chen Weihua.
  • That is blatantly wrong and no it wasn’t. It was created to help French school children with their studies by helping teachers understand where they were lagging behind and needed more help in. As “General Intelligence” was thought to be changeable and just a metric of how much people are educated in base subjects like math, vocabulary, reading, base problem solving, and pattern recognition. Something that IQ is decently good at quantifying. IQ is not a measure of “How smart” a person is.

The eugenics movement, racists, and Nazis used IQ for race science. But that came 20-30 years after the first usages of IQ.

They spread the myth that IQ is unchangeable and genetic, when in reality it is a metric that is affected by material conditions and education.

  • WTF is this?
  • Chechnya is infinitely smaller then Ukraine or Afghanistan, with a fraction of the population, little to no industrial base, little international support, poor morale, poor infrastructure, no modern weaponry, and only one real major city.

Comparing Chechnya to Ukraine or Afghanistan seems laughable.

That’s like saying “The US could take on Grenada in days/weeks, so why did they struggle in Vietnam?”

  • WTF is this?
  • Extremely unlikely. It will at best hold onto a never ending stalemate, and at worst devolve into a loosely federated terrorist state that will fight till the last man.

This will be Afghanistan all over again. There will be no victory here.

  • Batman the “superhero”
  • That is a can of worms about on par with a leftist asking "In what order should I read theory"? There a 1001 correct answers, and there is no exact timeline about how you can delve into the character.

I have a decent bit of superhero knowledge and I dive into it every now and then, but I will not claim that I am some absolute authority on this subject and that I can give you a definitive list.

I will however recommend "Batman: Year One" as it is a good place to start with the character and that is considered one of the best comics of all time.

For a Batman/Joker story I would recommend the "Killing Joke" series, but I will say that is is fairly mature in its content, as it really attempts to delve into the Joker's psychology as a tragic but evil character.

The Batman stories in the "Flashpoint" Series is fun as a side story as it follows a world where the Flash makes one change and alters all of history, and Batman ends up being Thomas Wayne (the dad) rather then Bruce Wayne (the son), and this is a much more aggressive and violent Batman, with a pretty shady moral code as Thomas goes full capitalist and is pretty evil.

The Long Halloween is also pretty good!

  • Batman the “superhero”
  • I understand, but the villain doesn’t lead with “Let’s stop the destruction of nature”, they lead with “Everyone should die”.

I don’t think Poison Ivy ever actually makes a compelling argument for conservationism and anti-capitalism. They just really REALLY hate people.

  • Batman the “superhero”
  • Poison Ivy's explicitly stated goals are mass genocide, how is that something to root for. She's not advocating for moving to solar or nuclear and reducing emissions.

  • hmm...
  • There is a reason warlords and ISIS use Toyota trucks. I’m pretty sure you could run those over with a tank and they would still run fine for 400k miles.

The Japanese car in our family is an absolute workhorse that was driving 15k a year and it is still going strong 16 years into its life with 250k miles.

Who (and what?) comes after Xi?

I recently saw a post here commemorating Xi on his 70th birthday. Quite the accomplishment in terms of how well he is doing as a leader, and in terms of personal health.

However, this also got me thinking. What comes after Xi? Sadly he is not immortal, and is rapidly approaching an age where he will not be able to as effectively carry out his duties. Plus he deserves to retire at some point to also enjoy his life.

From this, are there plans for who will take Xi's place? Who are the candidates with the most potential in terms of being elected? What will be China's path after Xi's resignation in terms of economic, geopolitical, military, and social development? Will Xi's path be continued, or will a new leader decide to change course? Will a continuation of Dengist policies be committed to, as Xi did, or will there be a return to the policies of the Four?

Preferably Comrades who are Chinese, have ties to China, or are knowledgeable in the subject could give their observations and opinions, but for everyone else, what are your thoughts?

How should settler populations be handled during decolonialization without resorting to reactionary solutions?

This is a thought that I have been tackling for quite a while now, but in the event of a country or region undergoing decolonialization, how should settler populations, especially multigenerational populations, be handled?

For example in the example of Israel, once the nation is reestablished as a one state Palestine, what would happen to the settler population? Especially those that aren't living or participating in illegal settlements or exploitation?

This question is complicated farther by multiple generations of people who were born in a location and have no ties to any other country or location. Those people don't have anywhere to go and can't be "sent back" to where they came from as they have no ties. For example if a person's grand parents immigrated decades ago to a country as settlers, and then their children and then grandchildren were born and lived their whole lives in a location, what would you do with those grandchildren? You can't just throw them back to the country their grandparents were from. This question is made even harder when the generations start spanning back much farther.

Another problem that I am running into is that many solutions including "leftist" ones essentially boil down to ethnic cleaning even if they do not say it outright. Or they completely ignore the question or resort to some fantasy scenario where the settlers magically disappear or all agree to move.

So how should these populations and people be handled?

Pharmaceutical collapse in the Imperial Core

Something very very wrong is happening with pharmaceuticals all around the US right now. No one is saying anything and every organization is pointing fingers at each other, but there is a massive shortage of a huge range medication, ranging from Tylenol, Zyrtec, and Advil all the way to antibiotics, Adderall, Chemotherapy drugs, and Diabetes medication. People with debilitating illnesses and disorders like Type 1 Diabetes and ADHD are being left high and dry without any answers other then pharmacies saying that they are on “backorder” (I.e. They’re all out).

Its not just one company either, for example in the case of Adderall-Dextroamphetamine, in a worst case scenario it can be substituted with other drugs of a completely different makeup such as Vyvanse or Ritalin which are produced by different companies. The one problem is that they are ALL out of stock. On top of this, because a vast majority of these drugs are held in copyright, many of them do not have generic forms, and other companies are not legally allowed to try to develop them.

Something is going very wrong and it seems like the US pharmaceutical industry is collapsing. I’m very scared what this means for people that rely on medication. Diabetes? Hormones for transitioning? Heart medication? Chemotherapy? What happens to those people?

Look at the link... 233 medications already are gone.
