  • Did you choose to eat meat?

    Yes.

    What’s your logic?

There is none, I wholly accept that it is entirely illogical and unethical. I am addicted to the flavor. If I could have the flavors and textures without the killing i would switch in a heartbeat, however.

    Which animals?

Any so long as it is delicious. Even human as long as the human wanted it and was not killed for the meat.

    Would you eat dog?

Yes. It's no different than pig in my eyes.

These questions probably don't work on me because I was raised in a vegan/vegetarian restaurant as a child.

No, it's just fedora atomic with some qol... which is in fact, fedora.

Bazzite didn't even add immutability, the only things they added are a few packages for gaming, steam, and patent-issue free ffmpeg. It is really just fedora with some preinstalled packages.

  • What does eating the same foods you grew up with have to do with it?

i try all new things even bugs, but some foods I grew up with are delicious

  • They said not bazzite, which is fedora with minor tweaks

  • Is there even one that does? We currently have two (maybe only one) politicians that do.

even if it gave us one more that'd be a lot haha, things are just that terrible here.

  • Yup, but they at least have political parties that support free healthcare.

you're forgetting how terrible the american parties are.

  • What should they be pursuing now? They have state of the art chips, tablets, phones, laptops and even all in one desktops, the only thing they don't have are TV's, at this point why not try to conquer the next frontier. even if it takes a decade?

  • You'd think so but I think saying o*io is a little much... up there with the n-bomb, you just can't say it

  • That isn't good evidence, we don't have a large sample size and the culture can vary highly depending on the conditions at the start.

One country, even 10 countries, would not be a scientific study.

I think in the us it'd be possible to have a party that supports universal healthcare. Sure they'd still be libs but that would still massively help.

  • All it does is make the political bribery slightly more expensive.

I disagree, i think it makes it possible for 3rd parties to succeed, maybe not in practice, but at least theoretically, which is a worthwhile change. But let's grant that that's all it does... that's still a good thing and not worth opposing.

At a deeper level, representative elections always result in an oligarchy. The wealthy / economically dominant classes are the only ones who have enough money / prestige to finance their campaigns and win the popularity contest. It makes any political system based on elections nothing more than political theatre.

Yup, I agree with all this, but i don't see it as a reason to oppose better election systems.

  • You're right that it doesn't solve much but the two party system in the US is particularly terrible. Fundamental change is a lot harder to achieve than changing voting systems and even with a socialist state we'd want one of these, so I think there's no point opposing it even if it isn't a panacea

  • That's really not the case, there's no proprietary parts to inject this into, and pop is one of the most heavily watched distros for a reason.

The minimal things they add to their particular distro are essentially just theming, and it'd be really obvious if they injected something malicious into it.

It would also NOT be too late because they're a stable distro and have regular releases, it'd have to be a completely last minute unexpected change for that to be the case.

  • A lot of people are going to recommend you mint, I honestly think mint is an outdated suggestion for beginners, I think immutability is extremely important for someone who is just starting out, as well as starting on KDE since it’s by far the most developed DE that isn’t gnome and their… design decisions are unfortunate for people coming from windows.

I don’t think we should be recommending mint to beginners anymore, if mint makes an immutable, up to date KDE distro, that’ll change, but until then, I think bazzite is objectively a better starting place for beginners.

The mere fact that bazzite and other immutables generate a new system for you on update and let you switch between and rollback automatically is enough for me to say it’s better, but it also has more up to date software, and tons of guides (fedora is one of the most popular distros, and bazzite is essentially identical except with some QoL upgrades).

How common is the story of “I was new to linux and completely broke it”? that’s not a good user experience for someone who’s just starting, it’s intimidating, scary, and I just don’t think it’s the best in the modern era. There’s something to be said about learning from these mistakes, but bazzite essentially makes these mistakes impossible.

Furthermore because of the way bazzite works, package management is completely graphical and requires essentially no intervention on the users part, flathub and immutability pair excellently for this reason.

Cinnamon (the default mint environment) doesn’t and won’t support HDR, the security/performance improvements from wayland, mixed refresh rate displays, mixed DPI displays, fractional scaling, and many other things for a very very long time if at all. I don’t understand the usecase for cinnamon tbh, xfce is great if you need performance but don’t want to make major sacrifices, lxqt is great if you need A LOT of performance, cinnamon isn’t particularly performant and just a strictly worse version of kde in my eyes from the perspective of a beginner, anyway.

I have 15 years of linux experience and am willing to infinitely troubleshoot if you add me on matrix.

  • I don't agree that he's a nazi but he did some pretty heinous things, like tricking these people into writing this horrible sign:

    https://www.theverge.com/2017/2/13/14605060/pewdiepie-disney-deal-lost-nazi-anti-semitic-imagery

and he did a hard-r on stream.

I don't think this qualifies for being a nazi (he doesn't advocate for an authoritarian dictatorship or a protectionist economy, nor does he want to scapegoat a group for all of his countries problems), but it is awful, racist, and disgusting.

But I don't really care if people do call him a nazi, to be clear, it's probably more effective messaging anyway.

  • I consider that recent, but... yeah, they're the fedora atomic desktops. Bazzite is identical to them, you can pick kde or gnome, so it isn't just kinoite or silverblue, so, atomic is more accurate in this context.

  • The developer is just kind of insane. They reimplemented wlroots from scratch all on their own, a feat that cannot be understated, and the reason they did that is because of how massively they were outpacing wlroots development in terms of features.

    just some things:

    1. a full proper animation stack for eyecandy
    2. single window capture (sway still doesn't have this)
    3. keypress forwarding to specific windows (like xdotool)
    4. global hotkey support
    5. insanely good documentation: https://wiki.hyprland.org/
    6. color management and HDR (sway is just now getting this)
    7. proper permission management for screencopy (coming in the newest version, first compositor to implement)
    8. a full plugin system for extra things you want to do
    9. a proper app not responding dialog

If the feature exists, hyprland has it, almost guaranteed, they are not minimalists, which I appreciate right now while wayland is still getting everything sorted out. It's also the only compositor i've used that mostly works with a certain dumb app i uses clipboard.

And just check out the rate of changes:

    https://github.com/hyprwm/Hyprland/pulse/monthly

    vaxry is crazy.

  • The only valid choice is 3, I want the full weight of the fork to be the tongs so they don't knock cups over. 2 is TERRIBLE
