Lemmy moderation is frustrating as hell
  • it's hard to think anything about posts like those, because everyone complains about "bad/unfair moderation", including people who post absolute bs and have no clue about it :<

not to accuse you of anything op, it's just kinda hard to get an opinion on the matter

  • New Halloween Sanctuary theme slaps :o
  • yee! there are, there is PS2LS2 on GitHub. but I wanted to keep the fade-in and the correct loop it does. I still extracted the original file and linked it in the description for full quality (it wouldn't have changed anything for YouTube because of compression anyway)

  • New Halloween Sanctuary theme slaps :o

was finally able to play the game again yesterday, and I love the new Sanctuary theme. I put it on YouTube with a download link for the original file, for archival sake

    youtube on modern phones sucks
  • I think they technically could, but won't, and never have. using ReVanced isn't nearly as much of a legal problem as Vanced, because ReVanced isn't directly providing modified versions of the official app (which would be redistributing modified copyrighted material), and even then, only team Vanced themselves suffered the consequences, by being forced to shut down. Modifying whatever for your own personal use doesn't come with any copyright issues.

Banning people who use ReVanced would be like banning people who use adblockers on desktop. not only it's not sure if that is actually against their terms of services (they can probably make the argument that ad-less playback is supposed to be a paid feature, and getting it for free is bad), they would never realistically go out of their way to ban everyone who figured out a way to have YouTube without ads. how about browsers with built-in adblockers? how about people who set up adblockers at their router's level, impacting everyone else connected to it?

it's never impossible that they do it, but so far it has never happened. no website has ever banned its users for using adblockers; at most, they would display a popup forcing you to disable it to access the site (youtube actually does that, but said popup is just as easily blocked than ads themselves). considering the huge amount of "what if"s, I don't believe it will ever happen, especially not with no warnings.

    #not legal advice

  • youtube on modern phones sucks
  • yep, and I'd definitely rather have it this way than none!

  • youtube on modern phones sucks
  • the official website is revanced.app . in case of doubt, check https://github.com/revanced. fake websites are sadly always an issue with popular apps that aren't on the main stores

  • youtube on modern phones sucks
  • I remember Vanced being simpler, only making you download the patched app, where ReVanced wants you to uninstall your YouTube updates, find the APK of a specific version, then patch it. not exactly hard for most enthusiasts but still out of reach for most. absolutely worth it though!

  • youtube on modern phones sucks
  • I've been using YouTube Vanced for years, and now ReVanced, after Vanced got killed. it's a bit tedious to set up on non rooted phones, but even then, it's such a huge upgrade. no ads, let you pick your own quality, SponsorBlock built in, background play, lots of payout control options.

  • twitter doesn't have an emoji picker, and if it did, it would use the same iconography as the rest of the app, and, more importantly, the same emoji (except on iOS devices where they are forced to use apple's emojis)

  • What is the difference between mute and block?
  • I think mute means you won't be suggested content from this person/community/instance in your various feeds they won't know you muted them. block does the same, but also prevents that person from interacting with you (can't send you messages or notifications). I'm not sure what blocking a community would do though.

  • Rule. Hanukkah in September.

  • I am here for the FOSS decentralized platform, but this kind of "if you don't use linux on you desktop and an ungoogled android phone then you just don't care" attitude is what makes some people see FOSS and decentralized platforms as a niche thing for geeks who care too much, and not a thing for then too

if someone hits me with that gnu+linux im removing any lemmy related apps from my ungoogled android phone

  • I use a root based adblocker on my phone, and I didn't get this popup at all. I enjoyed the original Boost for Reddit app enough to have paid the whole 3€ for it a while ago, and today, the familiar design, UI, and extensive features feel more comfortable to me than other apps, though I don't spend that much time on lemmy either

  • In which game did you spend the most hours?
  • oh? that has always been the case, open continents have always been based on server population, which itself has been pretty stable for the past few years. not gaining players, but not losing either

the Connery and Soltech servers are more empty than the others, but other than that, it's fine. Devs are still working on updates, and regularly bringing new things and doing balance changes. recently, Bastions have been changed to be more supportive and less death machines, construction has received a big overhaul, MAXes cannot be revived once killed, and last year a new map has been added, Oshur, with water and mechanics that go with it, to a pretty mixed reception, but I think they have done a good job at improving it over time!

The Playstation version is pretty much dead, with very low player counts, but mostly, it has stopped receiving updates for about a year, with no words from the devs so far

  • In which game did you spend the most hours?
  • ooh, astroneer is great! haven't played it myself but seen some gameplay of it. mine is Planetside 2 with about 2400 hours... most of that is from the past two years I'd say

  • Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?
  • mostly because I had to stick on Windows for video games. and for now, the amount of effort I'm already putting into making Windows functional when it's supposed to work out of the box, makes me scared of going back to Linux. Mostly a worry about changing so many habits and diving back into the unknown

  • If you're missing replies on posts, check your language settings (details in post body)
  • yee! it works now. there's an actual warning about unselecting undetermined, and i select or unselect any languages.

  • What do you think of using Lemmy as the "main forum" for Planetside?
  • personally, I'm up for it? Lemmy is already a nice platform, fun to use, including a mobile app. The challenge is mostly to have an "Official" platform a tually become used. Lots of people won't go here, just like they don't go on the official forum, because Reddit and Discird are already established platforms (or, well, in the case of Reddit, were)
