He flipped off a trooper and got charged. Now Vermont is on the hook for $175,000
  • That's the biggest thing this country is missing right now. It's OK to disagree with other people, but for some reason, people seem to think they are enemies because they disagree. We are all individuals, with our own views on everything. There isn't a single person in the world that I agree with 100% on everything. To assume that anyone I disagree with is somehow evil, or my enemy, is insane.

  • Why would she tweet that?! We're so effed...
  • Though I agree with you, no one will vote third party, because they are convinced a third party can't win, making it a self fulfilling prophecy. If you don't vote for them, of course they can't win. While I acknowledge that the system is broken here in the US, and that ranked voting is a much better system, I'd like to remind people that its still important to vote for who you like, and not against who you don't like. I don't like either of the main candidates for President, so I'm voting third party. Will my person win? Who knows, probably not, but I won't vote for either of the main candidates because I dislike them both for different reasons, and think they're both awful. Is one worse than the other? Yep, sure is, but I'd still rather vote for someone I like. If people weren't so obsessed with only voting for the major parties, third party candidates could win. It's happened in the past. No one ran for president as a Republican until 1856, and they didn't get their first Republican president until Lincoln in 1860, which means that even though they are a major party now, they were a third party back then. Third parties CAN win, but not with the current mindset of the average American voter today. If people who say they want a change, actually want a change, then they need to do something different to get the change. If you keep doing the same thing, nothing will change. If you're sick of the major parties, and hate the candidates they're putting forth, show them how bad they are by voting third party. Change is hard, but possible. To see change, you need to be change.

  • I live in a hard blue state. I, and half of the registered voters in the state could choose not to vote, and my state will always go blue in a presidential election. I will vote with my conscience. Until more people vote for who they actually want, instead of against the other person, nothing will change. We won't ever have ranked voting, because the Rs and Ds in charge will never put it in place because it could remove them from power. We need to change the way we vote before any meaningful changes can happen. If we keep voting for the 2 major parties, nothing will ever change in that regard.

  • You need to listen to what he says, not what's reported about him. He's not against vaccines. He's fully vaccinated, and so are his kids. He wants vaccines to be safer, and believes that not enough is done to make them safer.

  • because there is no way a third party candidate gets elected.

This self defeatist thought process is why it doesn't work. People don't vote for third parties, because they think they won't win anyway, and assume it's a wasted vote. I live in a blue state, that will always go blue. I vote for who I think is the best candidate, even if it's a third party. People claim they want to do better than the two party system, but take no steps to vote for anyone but the main 2 parties, which further drives the two party system they claim to hate. If you want to change the two party system, then change it, and stop just talking about it. I'm voting third party this year. Both candidates are bad, and I refuse to vote for the lesser of two evils.

  • Oddly enough, RFK Jr is campaigning on fixing all of those, but most people who care about those things still won't vote for him, but will vote for Biden who has no intention of actually fixing those. I'd love to see voters actually vote for what they claim they want, instead of just voting for whatever party they are registered as. Most R and D will just vote along party lines, regardless of whether or not their candidate is actually a flaming bag of poo.

  • Solving homelessness
  • I would argue that there's no longer a reason for religion to exist, but at the same time, as long as it's not being pushed on those around them, or harming others, I generally just ignore it. It's absolutely possible to be a good and kind person, who isn't religious at all. It does bother me though, that people claim that their religious text is unadulterated from the original, and quote it to others as a way to tell them they are bad, and should change their ways, while ignoring anything that's inconvenient to what they want to pretend their religion is. All 3 of the Abrahamic religions pretend they are about peace and love, but if you read their respective religious texts, there are multiple calls to violence, killing, slavery, misogyny, racism, etc, all of which most of them pretend they are against. Their religions are based on violence and hate, while they pretend they are following a loving god. I grew up in a very religious household, my dad being a pastor, but if you actually pay attention, they're shit religions, who are based on some pretty awful things. I wish more of the people who embrace the Abrahamic religions would actually pay attention to how awful they are told to be, and realize how bad it is. So many wars and conflicts could be avoided if people realized they were just following violence based on a belief of a non existent deity.

  • If you're going to follow the Bible, make sure you're not picking and choosing the parts you want to follow. If the commands from your god are that important, you can't ignore half of them.

2 Kings 6:28-29 But then the king asked, “What is the matter?” She replied, “This woman said to me: ‘Come on, let’s eat your son today, then we will eat my son tomorrow.’ So we cooked my son and ate him. Then the next day I said to her, ‘Kill your son so we can eat him,’ but she has hidden her son.

Psalm 137:9 Blessed the one who seizes your children and smashes them against the rock: the children represent the future generations, and so must be destroyed if the enemy is truly to be eradicated

Leviticus 25:44-46 “Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.”

    1 Timothy 2:11-12
“A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.”

  • There's no such thing as bad publicity...
  • I've also been saying this for a while. If the people who hate him quit talking about him, they will quit advertising for him. Let him be forgotten. I honestly hear significantly more people and news media who are against him, talking about him, than I do people in favor of him. Don't let him live in your head rent free. Talk about the person who you DO want as president. Talk about the things that are important to you, that your candidate is for. Don't talk about the other guy. Let his name fade into history.

  • So we can tax the rich for the money right? And where does that money go? Oh ya, to the government, who does whatever they want with it, making themselves, their friends, and donors, richer. That'll definitely help us /s

  • Temporarily embarrassed millionaires pt. 2
  • Taxing the rich does nothing until you can fix the government. Fix the government first, and you can fix the rest. The government is the rich, they aren't going to do anything that would impact themselves. Some of them talk a good game, but if push comes to shove, they aren't going to raise taxes on themselves.

  • Vivek Ramaswamy suspends presidential campaign
  • That's been my guess for quite awhile now. His platform didn't make a ton of sense, and he frequently said similar things as Trump, while not wanting to put down Trump for the most part. Love him or hate him, Christie was one of the loudest voices on the right that talked negatively about Trump. Don't get me wrong he's still garbage, but at least he spoke out against him, which is tough for a Republican candidate to do. Vivek on more than one occasion refused to do that. I wouldn't be surprised to see him as the VP pick.

  • Temporarily embarrassed millionaires pt. 2
  • Or to the friends, family, or donors of the politicians. I have no idea why you're getting down voted. The only thing I can think of is that people seem to be under the impression that taxing the rich will put more money into their own pockets, which definitely won't happen. The government is too corrupt to allow that to happen. Taxing the rich is a good thing, but it won't help the rest of us, not with the way the government has been run for multiple decades.

  • Temporarily embarrassed millionaires pt. 2
  • I have no problem with the rich being taxed at a significantly higher rate than all of us, but how will this help everyone else? The government isn't going to lower taxes for everyone else. The government isn't going to spend the money more wisely. The government isn't going to give the rest of us money. The government isn't going to improve the existing programs that are in place, or create new programs to help people. What they will do, is find even more ways to line their own pockets, and the pockets of their friends and donors. Just a thought, but maybe we should address that first? Fix the government, and we can fix everything else.

And before someone starts in about how it's a particular party that's a problem, remember that almost every federal level politician is corrupt, and scamming the people. Just take a look at how many significantly increase their wealth while in office. It's staggering, and it's both parties. We need an overhaul of the system. That's where the fix needs to be.

  • I can't donate to Boost

When going to the "Remove Ads" link in settings, or in the menu, it takes me to this page where I can't click on anything. I'd love to donate, and I'd love to eliminate ads, but it's preventing me from doing so. Is this a bug, or am I missing something? I had removed ads from Boost for Reddit, so did that carry over maybe? If so, that's awesome, but I'm not against sending the creator more money, because I love Boost, and want to support him.
