  • Were the British soldiers killed in the Revolutionary War, or the Rebels Killed in the Civil War, or the Nazis killed in WW2 victims of political violence?

Sometimes a political spectrum becomes stretched so wide that there can be no middle ground. No amount of "spirited debate" is going to reach a compromise about who is due their life and freedom. The wolf and the sheep are never going to agree on what is for dinner.

Charlie Kirk absolutely leaves a legacy of misery and death. He shares blame for Jan 6, mass shootings, and numerous hate crimes. He may have never pulled a trigger himself, but the right wing terrorism he encouraged leaves the blood on his hands just the same.

  • Progressives abolished slavery. Conservatives started a civil war to keep their slaves. That is why nearly all the states which were part of the Confederacy always vote Republican.

  • Its a news story because it is not typical. That being said Berlin has a homicide rate around 1 per 100k people and Chicago has a homicide rate around 21 per 100k people as of 2024. There were 573 homicides total in 2024.

Most of these occur in a small number of chronically impoverished neighborhoods. The worst neighborhood, Austin, had 47 murders which is more than the safest 23 neighborhoods combined. 428 of those murders were black and 116 were Hispanic.

As you can see there is a decided slant to the data that shows why the Black Lives Matter movement exists. There is more or less a permanent underclass created by racism and failed drug policy.

  • Its not both as the data I posted shows. China has virtually no pit bulls and yet is has more dog bites per capita. That proves human culture alone is the defining factor in the problem.

As for why anyone would choose a pit bull, they are adorable, playful and affectionate companions when socialized and trained, exactly like any large dog.

  • China has 55 million pet dogs and reports 12 million dog bites or attacks a year.

    https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/13880292.2024.2441000#abstract

Meanwhile the US has 98.7 million pet dogs and reports 4.5-4.7 million dog bites or attacks.

Pit bulls are banned in China. The difference is human culture, not the dogs. In China it is common to train guard or attack dogs and there is also an unaddressed problem with feral (i.e. untrained) dogs. Because of this they have nearly half the pet dogs but more than twice the attacks.

  • I would counter that by saying that if Chihuahuas were the size of pitbulls, there would be far more maulings.

Dog breeds do have an impact, but it is never more than the impact of training. ANY breed in the same weight class of a pitbull can be trained to be equally dangerous. The problem is the cultural practice of raising attack dogs and the cultural preference of pitbulls. If you banned pitbulls without changing this culture, they would just start preferring cane corsos, German shepherds, and the like. It makes as much sense as thinking banning AR-15s would fix the gun problem.
