I know the OP is trying to communicate that she thinks she can get away with something for what is essentially nothing, but if she can't do it for the reason you're talking about, how can she not do it anyway? I think this is actually a question in my own country, the only question I've heard in Australia is "if I can't find my car in a few hours, what are my options?".

It would be easier to create a list of all the people that have quit or are retiring or just moving on from the role, and then have an explanation of how it's better for everyone to stay in place, and if you really wanted to try and appeal to those people I wouldn't say "my best friend quit, my best friend retired" as that's pretty much what I was taught as well. Instead I would say "my best friend quit, my best friend moved on from the job, my best friend is now the Prime Minister, etc etc".
