People are coming from Reddit where they posted to every relevant subreddit, and they’re doing the same here. It is unnecessary because of how the fediverse works, they’re just trying to maximize engagement.
How does this compare to a shell swap on the Switch? I’ve done my switch twice, but that’s all of my experience with taking electronics apart. The deck intimidates me, but damn do I want that see-through case. I have both a game boy and my switch in clear pink, and I want the set.
My engagement ring was a herkimer diamond :) we had to replace it with moissanite because I’m hard on my rings and the stone chipped, so now it lives safely in a jewelry box. I will always have a special love for herkimer quartz.
That was my initial instinct, to be judgemental. Then I asked myself, how does this impact me? It doesn’t. But if I was rude to them, as you are being, that would impact them. It would not make them give up their identity, it would just add negativity to their day. So let them be who they want to be, it doesn’t impact us in any way to let them exist as they choose.
The reason it is likely a lot of bot accounts is someone explained how to exploit a glitch that creates thousands of bot accounts within minutes. The day after they posted the exploit, suddenly Lemmy started growing rapidly. It’s just too coincidental to not be mostly bots
What field are you in that they’ve never asked for references? I’ve had to provide references for a range of jobs, from warehouse assembly line work to medical research
