Methanol is a toxic alcohol that can be added to liquor to increase its potency but can cause blindness, liver damage and death.

Not really. Methanol is a naturally occuring unwanted byproduct of fermentation, especially of fruits high in pectin. Distillers are supposed to separate it out when making cuts.

If you are greedy and stupid you may be tempted to include more of the heads rather than discard, which is roughly the first third of the distillation and is where the methanol is.
