  • You're a genocide supporter then. Hamas wants to genocide Israel. And you are supporting Hamas.
    I don't support Israel's actions in Gaza.
I was just pointing out that by calling it an occupation, then an occupying force has the responsibility of providing safety and stability to the occupied lands. And Hamas, in that context, would be a barrier to that.

  • I think communication and general moral consensus matters. If people voiced their dislike and contempt for Hamas half as much as they do for Israel, it could have the effect of diminishing Hamas' purpose for continuing this war.
But I think a lot of commenters actually support Hamas, and the violence it keeps doing. But they won't actually admit that. So it makes it hard to understand.

  • Right. And I've always viewed the notion of trans as weirdly social conservatism - because it seems to buy into sexism. I would think a fight against gender stereotypes would be better than a fight to be able to use flexible labels to fit in gender stereotypes. But I guess it amounts to the same thing.

  • Cool. But then isn't the fight for trans rights sort of the wrong fight? Why not fight directly against all gender stereotypes and inequalities? Which as a progressive 80's kid, was what I've fought for all my life. Dress and act how you like and it shouldn't have anything to do with what's between your legs at birth.

  • Israel would stop if Hamas unconditionally surrendered and released all hostages. They would have to, and they would. And they would continue to occupy Gaza and be assholes, but the violence would go way down and the aid embargo would be lifted.
If you all are so condemning of Hamas, why is the response to 'if only Hamas would surrender' so angry and attacking of Israel. Why deflect this way? Yes if Israel weren't doing bad stuff there would be less bad stuff happening; but that's a different thing.
You react vehemently against the notion that Hamas should surrender but claim you agree Hamas should surrender.

  • No. Because Monty may only show another door if the contestant first picked the door with the car. Ie he always tries to lure the contestant away from winning. So in that case it would be bad to switch.

  • When my wife and I had our first baby, my wife suffered from postpartum depression. A counselor was visiting our home and went through a questionnaire with her. Like statements 'I am able to laugh and enjoy things', and 'I look forward with enjoyment to things' - she had to rate how strongly she agreed with each. She didn't agree with much at the time (luckily only lasted a month or two). My mom was visiting at the time and could apparently overhear this. Afterward my mom commented to me 'even I knew the right answers to those questions'. It hit me then that her generation were just as fucked up but the mentality for them was to just fake it and never admit any problems. The 'correct' answer was always to sound like everything was fine.

  • If anything can be masculine, then what does it mean to be masculine? I'm all for call yourself whatever you want, be how you want to be; but a certain logical consistency would be nice. If there are no differences between genders, that's great, but then what's the meaning of being trans or not?
