The debate gets interesting sometimes
  • Go through a few of these most important elections in our lifetime and see what you think about the stakes. Most of the big issues were plotted ages ago by the right and the dems have done diddly squat to fight against it even when they had serious majorities. Otherwise they’ve been moving right every election since Reagan because “that’s the way you win.” Donald trump is a fucking clown, but he’s about on par for what we’ve got otherwise.

At this point I can firmly say “I am not a dem.” They don’t represent me and I’m not going to vote for them if someone who does is on the ballot.

  • Please, for the love of God, VOTE!
  • So… by voting my conscience I don’t get a vote? I was literally brought up with the idea that if enough people pressure one of the parties one way or the other they might start embracing your ideas. And that was supposed to be how this worked.

  • Australia to criminalise ‘doxxing’ behaviour — after pro-Palestine activists publish names, photos and details of Jewish WhatsApp users
  • Context onwhat the “doxxing” actually entailed and why it happened.

What was shared was a leaked chat transcript demonstrating the coordinated efforts of many working to silence support for Palestinian liberation.

The transcript clearly demonstrates collective actions taken to contact employers, funding bodies, publishers and journalists to censure anyone deemed to be a threat to zionist ideology. Some of these efforts were successful, the firing of Antoinette Lattouf being but one example.

Basically, they were running harassment campaigns out of a chat that used real names and someone leaked it.

  • Anyone uses IRC? Why?
  • I’ve still got a fancy IRC setup with a bouncer and whatnot.

These days discord has pretty much taken over its niche though, and it’s what I’m on 99% of the time outside of chatting with the community for a half-dead 20 year old game. But, not long ago in my lifetime IRC was 100% the way to go for this sort of text chat, and a lot of that still exists. And well, it’s absolutely dead simple and resilient as a protocol.

  • Cummins pickup truck engines systematically tricked air pollution controls, feds say
  • Although these trucks are regularly bought just for vanity, they’re also the go-to trucks for cross country hauling. And regardless of infrastructure, current electric tech doesn’t do so hot there.

Although, part of their draw compared to others in their class was that they had the “best engines”…

  • I'm not even sure I want to know
  • According to some weird red-brown alliance “patriotic socialists,” “maga communists,” or whatever they’re calling themselves now (The first one was probably way too on the nose). We’re not them though. We even immediately drove one of the main figures behind that cryptofash bullshit out, and now they’re just a semi-regular feature in the dunk tank.

/Edit - May be confusing the drumming out with another far less edgy community and/or the r/CTH days. Folks like that are prolific about trying to wedge their way in. Latter point there still stands though.

  • I'm not even sure I want to know
  • They’ve decided a radically inclusive, three-year-old community of lefties who were here well before there was any serious activity on Lemmy are secret fascists who only pretend to be heavily LGBT for laughs. How are you supposed to respond to that? It’s hugely insulting and absurd on its face.
