  • Great article that really helps me understand the various presets of AV1. I re-encoded a 8gb 1080 h264 with AV1 preset 4 and crf 22. Came out just under 800mb. I do see some compression artifacts in the resulting video, but nothing serious and the bandwidth savings is great.

I have also found that encoding speed doesn't change much between presents as much as just scaling the output to 720 instead of 1080. Which is what I do for files that I'm ok with being standard HD res to get that almost 2x encoding speed.

  • Lion king 2 and lion king 1 1/2

My take: Lion King 2 has some rushed parts and other parts are too long. Overall, ok but forgettable addition to the series.

Lion King 1 1/2, starts a little rough for me, but once Timon leaves home the movie takes off and it's a good time. Recommend a watch if you have the first movie burned into memory.

  • I found using Kodi helped resolve video codec support in my case. It was for AV1 nlon the Chromecast 4k, which doesn't support AV1, it seems to mostly work for smaller AV1 encodes. I guess it is using software decoding.

  • Maybe the switch for me would require staging on a burner pixel that supported. I have a lot of shopping apps, that I may not need, but need some time on the testing phone to make sure everything works before taking the deep dive.

This is also how I made the switch off windows. Stagged it on a space older laptop to see what's what.

    I'll get there...

  • If they remove it from the water, then change the availability to be OTC for multivitamins with fluoride. I want to be able to get it with our having a copay and whatever else the Dr wants to charge .

  • Ok cool. I was just doing a few encodings manually today and was working on my own encoding application that would be specifically for us usage, but maybe this will be fine as well. Thanks for the work.

  • Is it possible to remap the copilot key on the new computers back to the control key? I keep pressing it to skip words, but end up needing to use two hands now.

I'm on Aurora and while I got it mostly working now, I would not call it user friendly.

  • I'm doing the frying pan method, I go a few minutes after first crack. Still, these beans may be too lite for an espresso machine that's under $100. My personal pick is the ninja machine, I'm saving up for it.

About the grinder, you want to check reviews and various sites for what's a decent one. I like the encore I have (ESP) due to easy cleaning and ordering of replacement parts.

I used a spice grinder (blade) for a while, but made the switch and can't go back.

  • I'm trying Aurora on a Dell with Amd. I had the bitlocker issue coming from windows 11 that slowed the installation process. The os seems fine, I've used Mint and Ubuntu. I spent a good hour trying to get my flatpak apps to show up in the launcher, so that wasn't fun.

While I like the concept of keeping the os immutable and all apps running in a container, I'm not sure this is the best setup for me. I feel less in control which I have become used to under other distros.

Anyway, I'll stick with it a bit more and see how it goes. Battery life is good and everything else seems to be working.
