Oh great, thank you.
I don't know why, but with the amount of craze sync for lemmy was generating, I couldn't wrap my head around it just being one of the third party apps. Im really happy for all the Sync users that get to move here and keep their preferred app, but you would think there was a pizza giveaway or something with the amount of posts there are about it.
Sounds like burnout.
Don't have any advice cause Im not doing so great myself, but maybe set some small goals for yourself that look more achieaveable and enjoyable. Set a few hours to rest and do whatever without needing to feel productive, set some days to go out and do something different, some museum you never visited, or if there is some kind of event in your city like live music or whatever. Some times it will not be your thing, other times you may discover something new you like, at any case it gives you things to talk about and discuss with your SO and peers.
I don't know what the heck to do with my life.
I should be happy I finished my major but Im not, Ive been depressed and confused ever since.
It seems like most of the "typical career paths" for my profession are not for me and my attempts to do something a bit different are met with really strange looks from my peers, my friends, my family and my coworkers.
Don't think it as boycoting these companies, cause that wouldn't work.
But all it takes is one look at the news (on a very sad example, how target removed pride merch from their stores) to see it only takes a few loud voices complaining for some companies to shit themselves and adress the complaints. Right now, many of them are advertising in a protest / NSFW filled landscape... they may not take a liking to that.
Succulent community?
I loved that one too! let's go.
So far I found https://kbin.social/m/houseplants@mander.xyz to have some activity, but I do love me some succulent specific sub.
Went to your profile, apparently right now you have a thread inside the "random" magazine. You'd probably want to create your own magazine so that people can suscribe, count me in to volunteer some pics of my babies to get the content going.
Only came back to reddit to edit my profile stating where Ive switched to (kbin in my case).
Left one comment on a post asking for advice telling them an answer was posted on the subs's kbin equivallent.
Other than that, I don't plan to log back in, and if I need to search something I do it adding https://reddit.adminforge.de/
Im a very simple person, and used reddit for very specific things. I didn't even check my notifications, and participated on some not very big communities. Didn't even browse the main feed, just opened some tabs with the few subs I wanted to check out, got caught up with the new content that day and moved on to the next tab.
I know Im very much not how the average person interacts with the website.
Didn't even know what a 3rd party app was until the protests (never used reddit on my phone to limit the amount of time spent there, and was never very tech savvy).
Left because of other reasons, like a couple mods of communities I love packing up and leaving and the sheer principle of it all.
They are probably not gonna get backpay, but what this could achieve is to force reddit's hand in legally recognizing mod's work from that point on and giving the mods more standing than they have now.
At the very worst, it sends a message and helps to continue bringing to light reddit's shitty practices.
Negociation 101: ask for more than you actually expect to get (within reason, you don't want people to think you are a joke).
They ask for backpay not really expecting for backpay, just to give them wiggle room to settle in court for better rights from that moment on.
Last and only time I had to sue someone (and won) my lawyer told me what the usual result of cases like mine is, then we asked for that and like, 20% extra. Then on the mediation we "negociated" for the amount we were really expecting to get.
(This is all personal speculation, Im not a mod, clearing that up just in case).
Im not an artist /designer but I do draw and know some illustrator. While we wait for someone more capable Ill gladly try to design something, gives me something to do while I find myself around kbin.
I like the idea of the rocketship!
Goes well with the whole fediverse concept (which Im still in the process of understanding).
You can do it!
I had a hard time at first (I always do adapting to new technology things, technology is scary for me and it takes me more time than most). But Im guetting the hang of it and having fun.
I found it helpful to just start posting and commenting where I normally would not, just to get familiar with things (first posts required a couple tries, it happens). It helps build content here and it helps me figure thing out.
And Ive been using https://browse.feddit.de/ to find communities that interest me.
Yesterday and the day before I was intimidated by (lemmy /kbin / the fediverse) today Im already more comfortable. Anyone feeling the same, I advice to just mess around commenting and posting, people in here are nice, you'll get the hang of it if you try.
Haven't gone on reddit since the blackout and probably won't go back.
Hope more of us join, so far its been fun.
Although some of the communities I liked to browse on reddit are not yet here, its helping me expand and diversify a bit on the content I usually read, so I ain't complaining.

Probably she wanted to stall the process as much as posible so that they could bill the service some more before cancelling.
That or they have a script to make the service as hard to cancel as posible and she was just parroting that, without really paying attention to what OP was saying.
Somedays Im tempted to go back and edit all my (good, evidence based) advice with bad (common misconceptions, misinformation) advice.
But in my life spreading good information in the sea of bullshit is kind of a big personal value... so I haven't had the heart to do that.
But I do share the idea in case someone likes it.
Oh great, thank you.
