Ventreth
There are 7 major fantasy races living on the main continent of my world. They are all very human-like, but all with something small which makes them slightly unique.
-
Eiloth: Basically humans, but with the ability to heal from any non-lethal injury. Even if they lose an entire limb, they will eventually recover as if nothing ever happened.
-
Forla: I originally planned for them to be elves, but their defining factors have become that 1/3 of the population are hermaphrodites, and that appearance is not related to biological sex at all.
-
Dorac: Dragon people who evolved from forla, so in addition to everything above they also have dragon-like horns, wings, and tail. Their wings aren't enough on their own to fly, but combined with some magic they are capable of it.
-
Kolain: Cat people, which can be anywhere from humans with cat ears and tail to sapient cats. They have better vision compared to the other sapient races.
-
Taluu: Bunny people, all of which are just humans with bunny ears and tail. They naturally have a faster reaction time than other races.
-
Ikijin: Foxes which created transformation magic to take on a human-like form, but retained their fox ears and tails. They are roughly divided into the more northern red ikijin and southern arctic ikijin.
-
Zwolx: Wolves which imperfectly copied the transformation magic of the ikijin, resulting in many distinct regional differences such as floppy ears and curled tails. Yes this is a joke about dog breeds.
If anyone has any feedback, I'd love to hear it! I am fairly attached to all of them at this point and don't plan to remove any of them, but I'm totally open to changing them up a bit. Especially the names, I'm still not sure how I feel about those.
Whether the ever popular elves and dwarves or sapient non-human creatures of your own creation, many worlds include fantastical people of all sorts. Did you choose to include any in your world, and if so what are they like?
That's something I never really considered honestly. I've always imagined them as just having scales but it could definitely be interesting to give some of them fur or feathers. They do live in a cold environment, but I just hand-waved that part away with saying they use magic to keep warm if needed haha.
Thanks for the response :)
A little late to the party but excited to have found this magazine! Wanted to answer this prompt even if I'm 6 days late haha.
There are 2 types of dragons in my world Ventreth, which I usually just refer to as northern and southern dragons based on where they live. (There are also dragon people called dorac, but I don’t quite think they fit the prompt!)
Northern Dragons:
-
Your classic European style massive 4 legged lizards with wings. Their scales come in every color imaginable, although certain colors are more common than others.
-
They are sapient and can live for over 1000 years, but the vast majority aren’t especially smart. Occasionally though one is born with intelligence on par with humans.
-
They have massive mana reserves, but struggle with advanced magic due to their lack of intelligence. They are all taught flight magic from a young age, but it relies heavily on brute forcing them into the sky and then controlling their descent with their wings.
-
All northern dragons are born with celestial magic allowing them to see mana. This can both be used to detect living creatures and for seeing someone channeling mana into a spell, making them very strong in magic battles.
Southern Dragons:
- They normally live on a separate continent near the South Pole, but can sometimes be found vacationing in the southern parts of the main continent.
- They are inspired by East Asian dragons, so they are long and slender creatures without visible wings. They also come in any color just like northern dragons.
- While they have less mana than them, southern dragons are significantly smarter than the northern dragons. This lets them make much better use of their mana overall, so they are some of the most skilled magic users on the planet.
