Insurance in US
  • From what I know that is not the case. I am by no means an expert (and honestly I'm hopeful you know something I don't that can finally help me get treated) but I have tried to get it and have never been eligible in the state of Georgia. Again, I'm not an expert, but my doctor even recommended to me (half jokingly) that if I wanted coverage and could not afford Ambetter then I should just have a kid. These are even the requirements listed for Medicaid on the Georgia.gov website.

You may be eligible for Medicaid if your income is low and you match one of the following descriptions:

    You think you are pregnant.
You are a child or teenager.
You are age 65 or older.
    You are legally blind.
    You have a disability.
    You need nursing home care.

Even when I had no income at all because of health issues I was only able to be treated via hospital indigent care, not Medicaid.

Edit: In fact, even information regarding the Medicaid expansion seems to line up with my experience as well.

"Under the expansion guidelines, Medicaid eligibility is extended to adults under the age of 65 with incomes up to 138% of the federal poverty level/FPL (133% plus a 5% income disregard).

Pre-ACA, Medicaid was generally never available to non-disabled adults under age 65 unless they had minor children. And even then, the income caps to qualify as a parent/caretaker were very low."

  • Insurance in US
  • Only some states offer free healthcare for people under certain income thresholds without other qualifications such as being disabled or pregnant. There has been progress with states finally accepting the Medicaid expansion, and there are often "low-income healthcare options" available, but A LOT of people are unfortunately still unable to get coverage because they're too poor.

  • Does anyone else feel like advertising has little to no effect in them?
  • I always buy the cheapest option on the shelf (in terms of food). Usually that's the store brand for the store I am in. For electronics I usually just do a lot of research (Reddit, looking into age of the company, picture reviews and 1 star complaints) and ask friends. I'm sure that the "ads" shown in my research sway me sometimes though when I'm truly clueless about something and just have to take people's word for it.

Sometimes, though, the people you're trusting to be objective have been swayed by ads themselves! It's honestly impossible IMO to be completely unaffected by ads because of that. Even if you never see an ad in your life -- the people around you have.

  • What was your "listened to my gut instinct" story?
  • Can't attest for them, but it sounded like a straight up explosion when lightning struck in my yard once. It hit a pole I believe, but nothing was damaged (except the router that got super-fried...) so maybe it would aound different depending on how it hits and what it passes through.

  • The end of Reddit? Why the blackout is still going – and what happens next
  • Feeling and hoping the same. I never commented on Reddit, so it's not like I'll be missed, but I can replace it easily with how much more active Lemmy feels now. I'm getting plenty of new posts vs a few days ago when it felt very stagnant.

  • Starfield's already the top seller
  • Honestly, more power to you then! I'm glad you got to do something you've always wanted -- I agree it's super cool and I think that physical collector items are the one exception for me if I was to pre-order something. I'll be forever jealous of your watch!

  • Paralyzed by choice, which handheld to best game on?
  • I love my modded 3DS. For me, it's definitely the best decision for Gameboy games and DS games in general. I don't play SNES games much, so I'm not sure how well it'd work for you, but the Gameboy experience on 3DS (vs anything else I've tried) can't be beat imo.

  • Starfield's already the top seller
  • Right? I honestly think I'll wait for the first sale, whenever that is, and hope there's a fun little modding scene by that point. Someone will make the big unofficial patch mod and fix 1000 bugs for us by then.

  • Starfield's already the top seller
  • Don't you only get the watch and case when you get the like, $300 version? The watch was super cool but I can't reason with myself to spend that kinda money on the game gear if I don't end up liking the game itself in the end. I do really love the watch, though...

    Never actually pre-ordered anything, anyway.

  • Comfort games?
  • Thanks for tbis recommendation! I've heard of and played a lot of games recommended here but never heard of this one. Looks really relaxing. Excited to give it a try sometime!

  • Modern Pokemon games hold your hand too much.
  • Honestly, though Legends Arceus wasn't like groundbreaking or anything, it's embarrassing how much more fun it was to me than SV considering one was supposed to be the mainline attempt...

Romhacks are mostly what I stick to now as well. I haven't really gotten into it but it's insane how the community has come together for Pokemon Fusion to make SO many custom sprites.
