When's the last time you went on a real vacation?
  • Technically I live on vacation, but one where I went to a nice place for a few days? Back in 2016, I went to Brazil with some friends after my transition. It was also my first vacation ever without my family hand-holding me, so it'll always be doubly special.

  • Thunderbird 115 has been released
  • lmao, I was using the slider comparison wrong and thought "oooh, how nice it's looking!" and then I realized I prefer the old version.

  • Pronouns in non-English Languages
  • Indeed. I was using it during roleplay sessions back in 2001. I was not even into politics, it was just a way to avoid writing -os/as, which was longer and sounded dumb.

  • Tumblr says it’s going to β€œfix” its β€œcore experience” to appeal to new users
  • Tumblr-corpo is like "wait for me, I wanna crunch what's left of my userbase too!"

  • Pronouns in non-English Languages
  • Thank you!

Glad I could impart some information. If you have any other questions, I'm here!

  • Pronouns in non-English Languages
  • For Spanish, contrary to what conservatives say, the "white liberals in California" did not invent what we call inclusive language/pronouns. The @ and the X were being used by people like me some 20 years ago, within Latin American communities.

Words in Spanish are generally gendered, with the -A being feminine and -O being masculine, with -OS being the default mixed-gender plural. There are some special cases, such as "presidente" where words ending with -E are considered technically neutral, but by the lack of diversity they default to masculine.

The @ looks like both an A and an O, so it kills two birds with one stone. The "traditional" way of writing was -o/a or -os/as, but it just didn't roll of the tongue as well as unifying the A/O with the @.

Another letter that was chosen at the time was the X, because like in equations, you can replace the X with whatever you want. At least, that was what I understood. But it does sound weird out loud, so I get why some people object to it.

Nowadays (always in Spanish), the inclusive language has shifted to using the -E. Instead of saying "TODOS" (everyone, masc. or masc. and fem.) or "TODAS" (everyone, fem.), some people say "TODES" (everyone, masc./fem./any).

  • how's your week going, Beehaw
  • I feel you about the eating. My mom had/has anorexia and she dumped her traumas on me as I was growing up. I ended up on the opposite spectrum of EDs, and it's a lifetime struggle. Now that I live alone, I try to mitigate things by not having too many things at home. But it doesn't always work. I try to acknowledge the bad, but not let it bring me down. Tomorrow I will do better.

This week has started good. I decided, last night, to install Ubuntu and set up a dual boot with Windows 10, as to prepare myself for an eventual full migration. I've had Ubuntu in the past, so I'm very familiar with it. I had to go through the installation twice due to drivers, but using the "safe mode" installation seemed to do the trick. Now I have to remember to do the hardware clock command next time I boot into Ubuntu, because it keeps messing with Windows' clock. (I already bookmarked the solution.)

I hope you feel better soon, and that the rest of your week goes well!

  • For showering, I use a cheap walker (the kind that has rubber ends rather than wheels). I also use a backbrush (which is meant for washing your back) for my head, because I can't reach it very well.

  • What's the story behind your username?
  • Just a Seinfeld reference. I wasn't sure if I'd stick around long and didn't feel like thinking too hard for a username. But I also didn't want some auto-generated one like I had been using on reddit for the past few years.

  • whats a game that you got significantly far into, only to realize you were doing something wrong or missing a key feature/ability altogether?
  • I think it's definitely a 1st-gen thing. I played up to Black/White and it felt like the game progressed much faster and using stat moves mattered more as the generations advanced.

  • Is there a limit on saved posts?
  • Not only that, but it's not the appropriate community for this kind of questions. It should be in !support@beehaw.org.

@JVT038@feddit.nl, if you could delete both posts, it would save mods some work.

  • is the community not active?
  • I think the "subscription pending" thing is a bug. This is an open community, so anyone can subscribe and post. You can try to unsubscribe and re-subscribe. It should be instantaneous.

I think we're just really not many, and unlike LGBT+ or POC, our experiences can be vastly different.

  • whats a game that you got significantly far into, only to realize you were doing something wrong or missing a key feature/ability altogether?
  • Ha! I probably did the same thing. I certainly remember stumbling upon all the "hidden" trainers constantly.

I'm surprised I even managed to finish the game. I barely knew English when I got it. In fact, I learned a lot of words thanks to it. And to this day, whenever I stumble upon the word "swift", I think of stars.

  • What forgotten cult classic games are worth revisiting?
  • Darwin Pond. It's about tweaking little beings and watching them reproduce. Similar to the initial stage of Spore.

  • CW homo/transphobia What was your first experience dealing with a bigot?
  • When I was in my teens, I visited my dad and got drunk during a gathering. A friend of my dad's wife started talking shit, and I told her I was gay. And she's like "well, you'll go to Hell!" I didn't handle it well.

  • whats a game that you got significantly far into, only to realize you were doing something wrong or missing a key feature/ability altogether?
  • I pretty much ignored all status moves in Pokemon Red/Blue back in the day. I also β€œruined” a lot of Pokemon by loading them with HMs. So I’d have one poor thing that was useless in battle all the time, but could get me places outside.

  • informal PSA: i am (and have been) on indefinite break
  • You deserve a break. You're a great admin, and I admire that you and the other admins are always thinking of ways to interact with us aside from the "official" title. I can't begin to imagine how draining it must be to do all you do to keep a community like this running. I'm sad that y'all have to deal with this. I wish you didn't have to go through it. That it would all just magically run well and you'd be here with us, commenting and very rarely having to put on the "hat". Take care, alyaza. We'll be(e)have! 🐝

  • What forgotten cult classic games are worth revisiting?
  • Well, never meet your heroes... Or just never look up cult classics... I was going to recommend a little "game" I enjoyed, then I went around looking if there was an updated version... Turns out the creator decided to make some NFT crap based on it. What a disappointment.

  • What forgotten cult classic games are worth revisiting?
  • I think Beehaw ate my message. Apologies if it's repeated, but I always felt sad that Redemption doesn't get the same treatment by the community.
