If people using Reddit are called Redditors, then what do we call people who use Lemmy?
  • Fair, but "working" is still a condition I put forth as desireble. Whether or not it not working is asklemmy's fault or jerboa's fault, it doesn't "work."

I'm not accusing you personally of sabotaging lemmy, we're all cool here, I'm just saying "a working search function would be a good thing to have inside all communities on lemmy" and I'm not sure why that would be controversial.

  • How did crocs come back?
  • Was your coworker an old man with gout? Foot problems from an unrelated soccer injury? Just lying to you and you're buying it?

10mi/day for about 2 years on the same crocs, I haven't even had to buy a new pair yet, no foot pain since the switch. Again, I'm forced to trust my feet over your anecdote.

  • I had a thought about movies
  • But as we all know the greedy capitalists can't keep milking the same old cashcows if the users have a permanent copy that they can potentially also distribute so that won't happen any time soon.

Might I introduce you to a greedy capitalist invention called reels, vinyl records, cassette tapes, 8track tapes, VHS, DVDs, Blu-ray, game cartridges, and game disks.

What you say won't happen any time soon was the way it has worked since the invention of cassettes until "we all" decided that netflix was better than blockbuster. This is the consequences of our own actions as consumers, relinquishing physical discs that can be burned in favor of digital only copies controlled by their companies, held on their servers. My DVD copy of Kung Pow! Enter the Fist can't just be taken off of my shelf like netflix can take it off their server, nor can they take the mp4 with commentary and extras stored on my external hdd ripped with handbrake to bypass the DRM attempt.

And frankly, I'd personally rather pay for a physical copy, but a "free" digital copy as you suggest I'd also settle for. I can resell the disc though, and I can do so after I rip its contents.

  • How did crocs come back?
  • Lol ok.

-A guy who walks 10mi a day through a warehouse in crocs, while seeing all my coworkers also wearing crocs, who used to have a shitton of foot pain but hasn't since switching to the crocs.

Sorry but I think I'll take my own word over yours on this one.

  • Arizona Republican refers to Black Americans as 'colored people' in House floor debate
  • In that case, I expect to be referred to as a "person of whiteness" as I was unaware that I was being insulted all this time when called a "white person" since "person" isn't the first word.

I wasn't mad about it when I didn't know people meant to dehumanize me by saying those words in that order rather than the reversed order, but now that you have informed me, I am.

Same with "male," the term is "man," "male" is dehumanizing as well since we use it to describe animals that produce sperm. In fact, sperm is dehumanizing because animals have it too, so I expect human sperm to be renamed so that it doesn't share any commonality with nature that could suggest I'm also part of nature. Also, some people I don't like have called me "male," so I don't like it. While I'm at it some of those people have called me a sarcastic asshole, and so instead I'd like to be called a sardonic sphincter since it has alliteration and nobody I don't like has called me that yet.

  • How did crocs come back?
  • They never fell out of style amongst people who work on their feet all day. I'm guessing you don't need them while riding a desk, try walking 10mi a day through a warehouse and see how your loafers do.

  • Average programmer
  • Oh shit I'm a programmer?!

(I'm not, but this is me rn trying to make a mac script to interface with a weird piece of hardware work on linux without really knowing what I'm doing, and nobody on this obscure piece of hardware's discord really knows either evidentially, and nobody's bothered to figure it out until now but we're trying! Coincidentally, I miss reddit's bash help section, do you guys know another spot I could post some code and get some help on it?)

  • If people using Reddit are called Redditors, then what do we call people who use Lemmy?
  • We really need to get a search function so this post can stop being asked 1x daily by some new refugee.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad y'all are here and it moves a lot faster than 2y ago, but every day with this question, and no consensus has been reached. We should all just stop "asking" and let time tell us what we call ourselves, some word will win eventually.

  • [GONE] Giving away a TL invite. Not selling or trading, it's just yours.
  • Well make sure to use unique login info, from what I hear the IPT guy has been known to use people's info to get into other trackers when they had poor enough opsec to use the same pass/email. Iirc there was other stuff too, IPT isn't accepted as proof by most other sites and I'm sure people will chime in here with more sketchy things from the site, but I don't remember. Still I have no other option until the day when I get another option lol.

  • I'll put my hat in the ring.

I seed, I have a 1.5 ratio on IPT and I didn't buy it. I do use the bonus points but I mean, c'mon, the'yre there!

Been looking to get off IPT though because of the owners sketchyness, so I've been recently looking for a new "home."

  • IRC Clients

Personally I used to use Pidgin, but since I moved my XMPP to Gajim because of OMEMO I have no need to stay tied to it necessarily. So I'm looking to expand my horizons, and I figured here's as good a place as any to start a discussion about Linux IRC clients.

What do y'all use? Terminal, GUI, both?

Will put an eternal curse on your enemies for a Cinemageddon invite.
