Elon Musk Says Twitter Is Going To Get Rid Of The Block Feature, Enabling Greater Harassment
  • Musk and his backers (various authoritarian regimes) probably intended only to amplify the voices of the far right and other loonies, not to kill the platform itself. But that was always going to be difficult to thread that needle, made impossible by Musk's absolute lack of self awareness or self control. The fact that not only Musk is going to lose a lot of money when Twitter dies fills me with joy.

  • I have to use WhatsApp for business because that is what my colleagues are wedded to. But I hate the fact that it is part of Meta, I cancelled by FB account 5 years ago and it bugs me that this last tie remains. I have however successfully migrated my whole family to SIGNAL which is vastly better than WhatsApp or Telegram, and certainly more transparent.

  • Implicit in the question is the hope that Reddit will buckle so we can all happily go back there. However this whole debacle has opened people's eyes to a better, brighter future for the internet, where not all is controlled by large corporations. So even if Reddit does buckle, many will stick around at Lemmy. Not because Lemmy's content is better (it will be eventually, although now it remains a bit sparse) but because the whole ethos is superior.
