Can users from my instance still downvote with the API on other federated instances if I turn off downvotes on my instance?
  • I tested it using the api on this instance /api/v3/post/like and I was unable to downvote any post. I also tried /api/v3/comment/like and it would also fail due to {"error":"downvotes_are_disabled"}⏎ .

I made sure to try and downvote a comment/post on an instance with downvotes enabled.

Not sure why people are saying you can, unless I've completely screwed this up, but it seems that downvotes don't work at all via the api if it's disabled.

  • Vegan Theory Club Weekly Mega thread: 2024-09-11 - 2024-09-18 [PDT]
  • I'll start. I recently got some bloods done and I am very magnesium deficient (0.4 mmol/L) which would probably explain the chest pain, tremors, and eye twitches I get. Fortunately it should be pretty easy to fix and it seems to be the only deficiency I have right now (other electrolytes, iron, vitamin d, are all good), I'll just have to start taking more magnesium supplements. Has anyone experienced magnesium deficiency before? What foods to you eat to combat it?

  • The Vegan Society’s stance on the ‘vegan’ vs. ‘plant-based’ debate
  • I should check Australia’s stance on whether the label is regulated.

It either isn't or it's not done properly as I've seen lots of 'plant based' stuff here with egg and honey in it. It's a huge step backwards as anything can slap 'plant based' on it whereas a lot of the older vegan products had to pay to get certified as vegan and that actually meant something.

    Edit:

"Plant-based can mean anything that a company wants it to."

  • Server Whitelist
  • I think this list is a good start. As long as there is a simple enough process to decide on what to add (or remove) it won't matter too much if a few instances are missing for a bit. Better to gradually build up the list of federated instances than to have what happened before.

Hard pass on lemmy.world, I think it should not be considered unless a lot changes with their moderation and userbase. Currently it feels like the worst of Reddit decided to land there and I don't see that changing any time soon. This instance will feel a lot safer to us vegans and we can discuss veganism without them manipulating the discussion with their votes. Also, those libs can't downvote what they can't see :)
