What's your "old person" trait?
  • The idea of "keep it simple, stupid" is lost. Everything, from beauracracy to apps to games to social interactions, is mired in unnecessary complexity that makes it difficult for everyone to keep up. I want a simple website with information that I need (thank you Wikipedia for upholding this). I want an airline loyalty membership without insane fine-print rules. I want to tip services based on service provided and not mess around a tablet's interface. I want dental insurance where I'm not leaving the office with a bill that's almost half my rent becuase they did something my insurance said in fine-print wouldn't cover. Maybe these aren't "old person" traits and I'm just here venting. But damn if I don't miss when certain things were simpler.

  • U.S. pedestrian deaths reach a 40-year high
  • I used to be a dumbass pedestrian. I'd stand near or off the curb at intersections. I'd walk on sidewalkless streets to stores. Jaywalk heavy streets. Damn I was dumb. I avoid it where I can and waaaay more attentive of other people's driving

  • What do you eat in the morning?
  • Trader Joe's muesli. But maybe I should just make my own - might be cheaper in the long run? Only thing is, my body isn't adjusted to the fiber amount and it sucks being bloated at work.

  • What is something simple that you do to decompress and keep yourself centered?
  • 15 minutes of guided meditation after a hard workout. Sitting on a camping chair with a cold beer on a hot summer day by yourself. High quality noise cancelling headphones with your favorite music. Being around a friend or friends that all fits the right vibe and everything just clicks. E: Another one is buy one or two in-season quality fruits from a local grower... Just had strawberries in Japan and my life is different.

  • Scottish wildcats bred in captivity released to the wild in a bid to save the species from extinction | CNN
  • This is good news! Conservation work is near and dear to me. But I wonder if anyone can inform me about feral cat colonies in Scotland? I wonder if wildcats can establish a presence in the face of feral cats. And I wonder how native birds will fare.

  • "Tipflation" may be causing tipping backlash as more digital prompts ask for tips
  • There's something about tipping cash that's more visible, physical and I can tip less by cash and still be somewhat acceptable. Credit though is quick - either a press of a button on a tablet or a quick tally, which racks up the bill.
