  • The politically illiterate oxymorons are always really funny to me.

"Radical left democrats" / "Radical liberals" (my fav)

    "Marxist Fascists"

    "Fascist antifa thugs"

  • No, literally nothing like what I said. It could still be garbage if you didn't understand or review the output. That's why you understand and review the output.

  • I understand your perspective, but I do review the code. I also do extensive testing. I don't use packages I'm unfamiliar with. I still read the docs. I don't run code I don't understand.

Again, the quality of the output really comes down to the user and the application. It is still faster for me to do what I've outlined above and it makes automating some tasks worth it in terms of ROI that otherwise wouldn't be.

  • Because they're honest men and women. With rights—to work. To be useful. Not toys for corporate interests. They have a RIGHT TO WORK! RIGHT TO WORK!

  • Most of the article is paywalled, but the main points seem to be that AI work is less creative/lower quality & people spend more time fixing it than they would have making it.

That has not been my experience. On the one hand 'less creative' - that's true, I don't think LLMs can be creative. But they can summarize information or rephrase/expand on things I say based on provided context. So I spend much less time on formatting and draft creation for text based documents. I can have an agent draft things for me and then I just tidy up.

As for low quality work products, again, not my experience. I use agentic AI regularly to automate simple but repetitive business tasks that would take me much longer to write code to automate. I am not an engineer, I am an analyst/consultant. I can code some things, but it is often not worth the time investment (many tasks are one-offs, etc).

A friend of mine made an AI agent using an agent that can interpret pictures of charts and find supporting data in our databases (to find out what other teams referenced for their analyses)and/or make a copy of the chart and make modifications to it. Or it can create seaborn charts from text descriptions using data from our database. Now a team of non-technical users can make seaborn charts without having to know python. That is pretty powerful in terms of saving time & expanding productivity.

It's easy to shit on the tech, but it has legitimately useful applications that help productivity.

Edit: downvote if you want, but it is ignorant to say that LLMs only produce garbage. It very much depends on the user and on the application.

  • Did they, though?

A handful of them have spines. The guys pictured in the article are purely cartilaginous at best.

  • Very poorly. I ruminate on them for literally decades and have frequent anxiety attacks. I'm working on it, though. I've begun studying & practicing Buddhism and have found it very helpful.

  • Nothing bad can happen. It can only good happen. But with Tylenol, don't take it.

  • For anyone who needs the joke explained: Arlington Cemetery, graveyard for US soldiers who died while on active duty (i.e. in war) or who earned certain military honors.

So a lot of the folks buried there died killing Nazis given that ~400k US soldiers died fighting fascists so that 80 years later their descendants and compatriots could live in an openly fascist dictatorship.

  • In the US, yes. It was more common before the mid-2010s when the r-slur was very commonly used.

  • It's annoying to explain

    Because it's actually quite simple

    So listen carefully

Because I'll only say it once

    If you're anti-antifa

    you're fa

You can say what you want

    But that's the truth

    And I wish

I didn't have to constantly be against something

But how is that supposed to work with all these goddamn

    Nazi pigs?

And if it annoys you to hear that, it's not my problem

    It's your problem

    It's not hard to understand

I could take care of beautiful things

We could take care of beautiful things

Instead, we have to take care of this scum

    If you're anti-antifa

    you're fa

You can say what you want

    But that's the truth

    And I wish

I didn't have to be against something all the time

But how is that supposed to work

With all the goddamn Nazi pigs?

    How?

    How?

How is that supposed to work, please?

  • It's like something off the eric andre show lol

  • Could also be Belted Galloway. Look pretty much identical, but Dutch Belted are dairy and Belted Galloway are beef cattle

  • AOC would make an amazing VP pick. Could bring a lot of energy to a campaign and get youth/working class support. Then transition that into a presidential campaign later on.

  • I think it's important to frame this kind of argument very carefully. There is a misconception that communists and socialists just don't want to work and want a free ride.

Communists, socialists, and anarchists are fine with work. They are not fine with exploitation. Work is not necessarily exploitive. Work should be rewarded and incentivized.

But, in a civilized society, your ability to merely survive should not be dependent on your ability or willingness to work. That doesn't mean that the quality of life of someone who chooses not to work should be the same as someone who chooses to work. It only means that choosing not to work should not be a death sentence.

How any particular society may choose to implement such a system of non-exploitative, minimally coercive work may vary. But the main point is giving people more control over their work, their working conditions, and their lives generally.

"From each according to their ability, to each according to their need" still applies. You're just more likely to also get the things you want if you do valuable labor.

Edit: another point. I'd argue that leftists are MORE okay with work than capitalism enjoyers because they do not want people to be paid for simply owning things and not doing labor. The goal of capitalism - how to win capitalism - is to just own things and exploit others' labor, not to work. How to win Socialism is doing the job you enjoy/are best at/are most willing to do for the reward offered - that's it. Simple as.

  • Ad hominem fallacy. The person who has been exposed for various things, instead of trying to refute the argument of the accuser (e.g. "they're misrepresenting the facts", "I couldn't have done that here's an alibi")

... they just make their own accusations to make others mistrust their accuser. All of the examples you listed were ad hominem attacks against your friend.
