  • It must be detergent or washers are easier on clothes. Growing up, all my clothes eventually became the same dirty pink color when I’d wash colors together. These days I just dump everything in and toss in some laundry soap, maybe some softener if we have it around, and I still have clothes that are 20 years old and in regular rotation. Colorful as always.

  • Fucking hell, I didn’t even notice the wig but here I am, fully clowned.

  • They will all be rich and in positions of power. This kind of shit gets celebrated in this country. Once things die down the outrage machine will kick in and they will say that private, out of context conversations don’t matter, that is unless the can come up with a barely plausible story that it was all fabricated (they are already trying to say it was AI).

It won’t matter that it’s transparent and obvious to everyone. Most people don’t pay enough attention and will forget all about it. It will seem like a distant memory and the “reasonable” people will lecture us about the necessity of forgiveness.

Then they will be caught with an underaged intern or some shit and nothing will come of it since they are just public people with pressures on them that we just can’t understand.

    Yeah, I’m a little cynical.

  • I work with John, my role is as the replacement for another John. I’m trying to be open and fix the issues, but they just want John back, and the other John who’s here, is so territorial, even when I try to help, he just tries to undermine and fight me.

    Fucking John.

  • Seconding LMDE. It’s Debian based rather than Ubuntu so no canonical to un-f. It’s my favorite distro. LMDE for desktop, vanilla Debian for servers.

  • LMDE for future proofing and stability. Sort of a comedy option, but it’s my distro of choice. As easy as Mint, as stable as Debian. I just don’t trust Ubuntu and since it’s a Debian based distro, why not take one more step…

  • Oh man do I ever with you. I’m absolutely an idealist, I agree with the OP’s sentiment. But I will absolutely support anyone with any ideology that gets us closer. Small steps are easier to take, this bullshit that everyone thinks we need the perfect candidate with the one weird trick.

See what that got us. I have no goddamned idea where to go from here. I’ll support any ham sandwich that drags us in the right direction.

  • I’m in the same boat. I love that it makes self hosting easier for me. It does what I need and even gives me a small extra measure of security. I admit, I use it because I’m lazy, I could do it without Cloudflare and do for some services. So, I figure if it truly becomes urgent or intolerable I can drop it from the stack.

  • One of my family members got into the “blue-green algae” fad (about 5 years after it fell out of mainstream). It was too expensive so they bought the horse algae from veterinarian supply. He said it was exactly the same, as long as you could put up with the grit.

These people exist (and I’m related to them).

  • I’m with you. I mean, its probably the bubble I live in, but I’m so tired of trying to talk to my friends and family about all of this but I’m dismissed as being paranoid or they tell me that Biden was just as bad or frankly most often just some dismissive joke in response.

I’m guessing about as many people care about this as there are who support all of it. The remaining 40-50% is just checked out and thinks this is just politics as usual. That’s my impression anyway.

  • which is a nonconformist

Thank you for this, it puts it in terms that make a lot of sense. This really helps explain a phenomenon I see so often. I know a few folks who are certainly not pro-trump, but are very anti-political. I’ve been told that I need to shut up, and things would be fine once the next election rolls around.

These folks might not like what’s happening, but they are fine conforming to it.

Maybe it’s a me problem, but I think it’s going to take a little more work than the bare minimum.

  • When the only people supporting these new grifters are the regular old established grifters, the result was inevitable.

  • I wish more people would see it.

  • My American GE dishwasher just broke and I ordered a part from their US based site. The 17$ part ships from China, I have no idea what’s going to happen. Guessing I’ll be handwashing dishes from here on.

  • Nah, I mean that even thought they look so picture perfect, my brain just doesn’t see them as real, and parks them in the same category as a cartoon.

Whereas a practical effect, might look hilariously bad, but sometime a jello filled, papier-mache head exploding, is the perfect amount of gore to make me wince.
