What do you all expect to happen on the day a NHI reveals itself to humanity?
  • Funny thing is, there are a lot of reports from experiencers that there really is a non-material world out there, and a creator of some sort, and the NHI here are well aware of that. You have to go into the occult/new age/woo side of the phenomenon to get that perspective, but it's pretty firmly established in "the lore".

No one knows how official first contact with NHI is going to go, if it even happens. I'm just saying don't assume this will be the death of religion because there is plenty of hearsay out there that claims the exact opposite.

I think it's going to be hilarious if NHI show up and want to proselytize to us.

  • Twitter tells users to touch grass, adds new rule limiting how many tweets you can read per day
  • Yeah I don't understand it.

I'm sure something else will come along, the public service sphere of Twitter is too important. What else can they do? Go back to sending out press statements and breaking news on the radio or TV? Something will come along and fill that gap.

  • Twitter tells users to touch grass, adds new rule limiting how many tweets you can read per day
  • I had to look this up, couldn't believe it. I've been pretty indifferent to Musk and Twitter...cause I've been always indifferent to Twitter, but this is crazy. As an example, my city's police and bus services and others all use Twitter to send updates out. And I'm sure it's the same for most places. And now they've essentially lost the ability to mass communicate with people, because they need to be able to reach everyone not just those with an account.

  • Reddit Is Fun - *429*
  • The 429 error message would not clear from my screen; I had to reset my phone. I'm pretty sure that's first bug I ever encountered with RiF, and I used it for about a decade.

@talklittle thank you for all those years of an amazing app.

  • I thought Reddit and Twitter were pretty clearly responses to the massive data grab by OpenAI that let them train their language models.

I assume there are other factors involved too, like Reddit trying to force everyone to use its app. But I don't think it's coincidence this happened not long after ChatGPT took off.

... Though now that you mention it, I wonder if there's a connection between Netflix stamping out password sharing and Youtube getting serious about ads.

  • Lemmy is so good right now because there are no kids here
  • Kids should never have been on Reddit, imo. Not because of their comments or the content they produce. But Reddit, and I guess social media in general, is for someone who can think critically and has some experience in life. Because there is so much garbage on there.

There are absolutely kids under 10 using Reddit right now, and they're getting introduced to the adult world by some of the sleaziest dysfunctional adults around. And even if they don't get that deep into Reddit, it's still not a healthy place for them. It's not healthy for adults, we all know that, but kids on Reddit are growing up with it as a major contributor to their worldviews.

You know, it's basically GIGO. Adults can, in theory, understand that what Reddit says is opinion (often extreme and bizarre opinion) and not fact, but kids won't.

  • [MEGATHREAD] What did you buy in the Steam Summer Sale?
  • I got Planet Zoo and I am in love and obsessed. I love the animal breeding and community trading features. I love that there is a genetics system.

And the building and customization and management are all very in depth and flexible. Amazing game, if you're into building a zoo and taking care of little virtual animals.

(Technically not summer sale because it went on sale June 20 but close enough)

  • Welcome RIF users
  • It's a little disgusting, but completely in character, for Reddit to leech off those apps for over a decade and then stab them in the back.

And by leech, I mean I question whether Reddit would have grown as much as it did without the 3rd-party apps. Hardly anyone uses Reddit desktop.

... it's probably a good thing that I don't have Reddit on my phone now, to be honest, just wish it hadn't happened this way.
