Portland City Council is considering a ban on the use of gas-powered leaf blowers starting in 2026 to curb the effects of climate change and reduce health impacts.

They should. The fumes they produce find their way through the window seals and weatherproofed proprietary (and discontinued) AC holes and make my place smell awful. Fuck leafblowers in general, though.

While gas blowers have a lot of problems, electric blowers only really work for home owners, not for lawn care businesses. My blower chews through batteries and uses 3 to do just my own house. It’s going to be way more cost effective for lawn care companies to use plug in electrics and run a small generator to power them. They could plug into the building they’re working on, but often wouldn’t be able to reach all parts of the property, and some home owners pitch a fit if a tradesman uses their electricity. So you’ll still have the fumes and noise. The only real solution is to ban blowers entirely and push people back to rakes and brooms.
- This is a limited view... first of all, professionals use professional equipment - the Ego branded stuff, with the right batteries, do a lot more today than most imagine from electric. There is some more work and upfront cost to consider, but typically the performance isn't the issue today.
  Second and most important, make this shift in a MEANINGFUL way, and companies then have the financial incentive to release even more powerful, efficient and lower cost systems.
I purchased an E-go leaf blower, it works better than any gas powered one I've ever used, I don't have to deal with, buying gas, filling the tank, or have gas sloshing around as I point the blower.
