What's up with the front view left and right of the air intake. The oval-esque shapes. That's some weird optical illusion or is there really something going on there?

Slowly all the cars are consumed by exposed carbon fiber. It's like a virus. I get it though, in the end it's a performance competition, not a looks competition.
