[Project] Flight Control Button Box for Microsoft Flight Simulator

This was my first real dive into Arduino and multiple button mapping. It took a significant amount of trouble shooting and learning the software to get things to map to the computer action.

Prototype 1:Started this project before I had a laser cutter and had tried to just drill through acrylic. It didn't work well, but it held my buttons during testing

Prototype 2 Still no laser cutter but I cut out using plywood worked much better for manually cutting out the holes

Prototype 3 Much better

  • My God, what a gorgeous doodad

  • Nice ! I'm almost done with mine, will post when it's ready. I really like the enclosure you made. I had no experience with laser cutting and didn't feel confident enough to build a box like this. Is it as simple as getting a cutout scheme online ? or did you do it all by yourself ? If you have any sources or tutorials to make nice boxes like this one, i'm interested. I made my button box by replacing one side of a simple PVC electronics box but it's far from ideal

    • Definitely post it!

I designed this from scratch but it's very simple

use this website to help make boxes. https://en.makercase.com/#/

You just put in the dimensions you want and it spits out the cut file. Once you have that you can just add your button placements in whatever software you use.

      • Thanks ! Do you have to precisely take into account the width of the laser ? Or do the tolerances allow some < 1 mm errors ?
