We're big fans of open-source and reverse-engineered projects on this channel, and have used our fair-share of open-source projects to make our lives a little bit better and more convenient.

But earlier this autumn, a home automation enthusiast found that their reverse engineered project bringing Mazda's telematics to Home Assistant was issued a takedown notice by Mazda.

The reason? They claimed he was using proprietary information through reverse-engineering, even though the Supreme Court of the U.S. seems to suggest it's okay - https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/20pdf/18-956_d18f.pdf.
