Apple in the 21st century are exactly like Microsoft in the 20th: they view open source and public protocols as an active threat to their business model and will go miles out of their way to ignore any FOSS project even if it could be hugely beneficial to them.
Apple for better and worse wants to be in control of everything. They want to control the hardware, and the software, and they dont want to rely on other sources to do it. They could use vulkan, but then they' have to share and thats not what they want.
In terms of gaming they make way more money on mobile games than the traditional gaming market does anyway, and in terms of production and commercial apps they just port over to metal.
Personally not for me, but it's what they are and I dont expect apple to change
I mean, me either, heck their stance on blocking anti-slavery measures is worse and they don't even change that. I just don't expect them to act ethically, but would always bet they will act on brand.
I hope this helps Linux Gaming somehow. If developers will have to check an extra box for MacOS support, as pressured to do so by Apple, then I hope they will at least also check the Linux box while they're at it.
They are so off the mark its crazy, the future of this is streaming games services. Yea it'll be running on windows or linux at the other end and that isn't what Apple wants but its the future.
This sound like you don't play games very much because that's not the case, at all. Not everyone has unlimited data caps and fast internet, and those that do would still rather play games locally than suffer input lag and video artifacts. With consoles and PCs being as powerful as ever and still affordable I don't think the cloud gaming market will ever be mainstream.
technically it's possible as of now to use Wine and to just disable the MiHoYo Protect anti-cheat, as there was a large game update recently so their anti-cheat servers aren't up yet.
At least it's 100% possible on Linux so far.
Curious to see whether this actually helps Mac Gaming or not. I'm pretty happy with the way Wine helps gaming on Linux, I use Pop OS all the time now as a result of being able to play all the games I want on it.
