Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing fine and are well prepared for the winter holidays!
We at Dramatic Labs want to sweeten the festive season a little and are therefore giving away a total of 10 copies of Star Trek Resurgence on a platform of your choice (PS4, PS5, Xbox or PC).
Star Trek: Resurgence is a narrative-driven adventure game created by former members of Telltale Games that delivers all the excitement and wonder of the Star Trek universe. Join the crew of the U.S.S. Resolute as first officer Jara Rydek and enlisted engineer Carter Diaz on a mission to prevent an eons-old and powerful force from engulfing everything in its wake!
To take part, you have to comment on which Star Trek games you grew up with and which one was your favourite. The 10 winners will be randomly selected and contacted by me. The giveaway will run until 21st December 23:59 CET.
We would also be very happy if you visit us on our socials:
I must sadly recuse myself from the giveaway (curse my sense of ethics!), but I can confirm that OP is indeed the Community Manager for Star Trek Resurgence at Dramatic Labs.
I was a big fan of the Elite Force games, but the one I enjoyed most was a DVD game from the mid to late 90s that doesn’t seem to exist. It was similar to the activision Zork games of the era, but Gowron was making Gowron eyes at the screen a lot; I’m considering that I’ve merged two games I played together, and made a false memory, but honestly I don’t know what games those would’ve been either.
I really enjoyed Starfleet Academy on SNES. But my favorite games were the Star Trek: Starfleet Command games on PC, especially Starfleet Command Orion Pirates.
By far my favourite ST game is 25th Anniversary from Interplay released in 1992. I grew up in the 70s so TOS was very near and dear to me. In 92 I was reviewing games right at the peak of CD ROM and MS DOS gaming and 25th Anniversary really typified the best of both by including beautiful VGA graphics and a fantastic soundtrack complete with actual sounds from the series and the entire cast in their signature roles. Playing it was like being in the show, nothing else has quite replicated that feeling because it was like the cast was putting on a performance just for me.
My favorite Star Trek game is the sims. Make sure you have a few people with the name redshirt. Make sure those people have low stats in cooking and make them do all the cleaning. See how long they last. Then have other people as the officers. They just play all the time and enjoy themselves.
Star Trek Armada, hands down the best Star Trek game I've played. I do like the feeling of captaining my own ship in Online, nothing beats the feeling of winning a war via RTS.
And now that I'm older, and have seen more Treks, read more books, and have a much greater knowledge of all things Star Trek, I've been wanting to replay but I can't seem to locate my disc... I'll have to check my digital providers to see if I can find it most likely.
I'd love to see a modern take on a 4X Star Trek. Flavor mods for Stellaris and Sins of a Solar Empire don't cut it anymore.
There was that old Voyager fps, Elite Force, that kicked ass.
I put a stupid amount of hours into Starfleet Command. Probably my all time favorite. I'm the kind of person who geeks out on power and shield management.
I played a lot of Sins of a Solar Empire and I mention that because there was a cool Star Trek mod for that game I played for a bit.
Lastly, I played STO for a couple years. Loved the story and space combat but man the ground missions a slog. Still I enjoyed that game a bunch.
I feel like I'm missing something but I can't think of any more.
I've actually never played any Star Trek games before - I think the closest I've gotten is Stellaris, which definitely made me think of star trek. I don't know if that disqualifies me, but I might pick this game up anyways, sounds like a good time right now.
Oh man! I used to play the Star Trek: The Next Generation Echoes From the Past game on Sega Genesis. I was really young but loved flying the Enterprise around and pissing off the Romulans.
I played around with the Star Trek: Encyclopedia on PC which was fun and then much later on I play Star Trek Online now and again. It scratches that Star Trek itch to fly ships around and customize them. Great game but I'll never forget the times with that Sega game.
I always loved the 92' version of Star trek the board game! Lots of good times, plus I just another box unopened from a garage sale! Want to break into it but I probably won't do this would be cool on PC!
Never played any star trek games as a kid. Honestly the only one I played is bridge crew and it's awesome. Every once in a while I drum up some friends and we play it. It's a blast!
I grew up with Star Trek Elite Force 1 and 2, Starfleet Command: Orion Pirates, Armada 1 and 2, and Bridge Commander. All excellent games that I played many, many hours of.
As a Iong time ST fan I just way to say, this game was a great time. It was like I was playing through a ST episode, dilemma and all. Sending a ship to warp cinematically was something I never knew I wanted to do, but it was perfect.
I honestly haven't played any Star Trek games. None really piqued my interest. This game, however, is one I'd like to check out. First time for everything!
There wasn't a lot of Trek games in my childhood. I mean, they existed I just didn't have any. I remember playing something on DOS my dad had in his floppy collection but I don't know what the actual title is. Could probably identify it by a screenshot because it was like a screen with space/an enemy ship and then a bunch of menus to do everything like an old school CRPG.
Even now I kinda wish there was a Star Trek immersive sim/open world RPG besides the MMO, STO. Like Mass Effect or Starfield but Star Trek, and not boring.
My first Star Trek game was actually Star Trek Online, but I'll probably always have a soft spot for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Crossroads of Time for the SNES.
I'm definitely happy to see Resurgence coming to Steam though, I don't buy from anyone except for them and GOG.
A little past growing up but I played a lot of the Snes and Nes games. They had issues but once you figured out the gameplay loop they could be very fun!
My first one was Star Trek TNG: Advanced Holodeck Tutorial for Game Gear. I wasn't really a trekkie back then (had watched a few of the TOS movies with my dad and liked them but didn't really care much about Star Trek until around the 30th anniversary I think). I remember thinking the game's enterprise design was dumb and wanted the stylized one from the movies back (and Kirk and Spock and Scotty instead of these "random stand-ins" :P)
And I think my favorite one was a heavily modded Bridge Commander. I didn't really play much of the actual game (or "the campaign" as kids call it today) but spent probably around 100 hours playing custom scenarios, battles from the movies and shows.
I got ST: 25th Anniversary when I was a kid but I never got far. I remember the space combat to be ridiculously difficult. Maybe I have to revisit it. Next up was Starfleet Academy. That really hit the right spot and I spent hours upon hours in the simulator. In that vein, Bridge Commander also hit the right spot for me. Man was that great. Honorable mention goes out to Elite Force.
My favorite was Armada with close second Birth of the federation, a very good turn based strategy game.
Also played Bridge commander, Elite force 1&2, Armada 2, Starfleet academy, Klingon academy...
The first Star Trek game I played was a shareware version of EGA Trek for DOS, which was also one of the first computer games I ever played.
I remember it would tell you a starbase was under attack and you would have to go there to defend it. One of my torpedoes missed and hit a star which made it go supernova, destroying the enemy ship. Fun times.
I fondly remember playing Elite Force when I was young. I still remember the opening Borg level which simultaneously impressed and scared me, haha. Also those aliens that looked like manta rays were a funny and cheesy concept.
Come to think of it, I should play Elite Force 2.
Me and the buddies played a bit of Starfleet Command 3 during LAN parties. It would have to be my favorite star trek game, as it was the only one I played.
Oh yes, I also played a lot of Star Trek Elite Force back then - I think I liked the first title more, likely because I'm more into VOY. I liked solving the riddles on the levels and trying for hours to find the secrets... What a good time!
My fifth grade teacher would let us play 25th Anniversary if we did well in class. My first intro to Star Trek games!
Then went on to ask for them all. Loved the real life actors in Star Trek Borg (including John de lancie!)
I remember buying Klingon Honor Guard and being so bad at it that I asked my mom to return it, finding out later that the installation worked without the discs (the good old days of PC software). I got much better at FPS and went on enjoy Elite Force, which is probably my favorite.
Also waited with bated breath for the demo of New Worlds but can't remember if I ever got the full game.
Speaking of demos, anyone remember the trailer for the game Secret of Vulcan Fury that was included in front of Interplay games, touting the voices of the original cast? So sad it was never released, considering it was deforest Kelley's last turn as McCoy. I wonder if the original audio tapes still exist and someone could turn it into a game...
Ah, thanks for the memories of the golden age of Star Trek video games!
I played a lot of Armada (1 & 2) and loved Elite Force (1 & 2). I tried Command and Final Unity but I didn't understand English enough at the time to know what to do. My favourite game was DS9 Harbinger though because DS9 was also my favourite show.
Star Trek: 25th Anniversary on DOS and Gameboy. DOS version was superior even though my mother threw away the manual in a move. I had to figure out the system locations by randomly going to all of them.
Star trek Armarda comes to mind the most due to playing one match for hours and hours on LAN with my brothers many good memories.
Also having another play through of Elite Force 1 and 2 recently was fun 😍 also can't beat a good play of Bridge Commander!
Star Trek Resurgence looks amazing nice to see more trek games
congrats to the team.
Star Trek: Away Team was fun kind of xcom type game. Which I still enjoy those games.
Star Trek: Armada like others. Mainly because of my love of RTS and trek.
Star Trek: Legacy I’ve always enjoyed strategy games. Im fairly sure it was this game where I had a bug or Easter egg. Trying to beam up Thomas Riker in the middle of a fight I had two ships lock on. In the end I ended up with two of him, which felt kind of fitting so never could tell if Easter egg or not.
There was one online texted I think java based game online in 95/96, where you can control a ship and could meet other players. I was really really bad that.
Also a “Star Trek” game that I’m fairly sure was a rip off of EGA Star Trek that came in one of those bundle boxes that were like 30 games for $10 on cd.
I played several games but the one that stands out the most to me is Star Trek: Voyager - Elite Force. EF was based on the Quake III engine (idTech 3) and came with QERadiant, amongst other tools, that let you make your own maps for it. The story for the game was awesome and it was the first game that I think did justice to the atmosphere present in the show with only a little bit of the cheese. Once I finished the game, I went right into making my own levels for it. It was really amazing. I miss games like that and the fact that they came with the editing tools for them.
Atari 5200 Trek. I absolutely loved that game as a kid and I still have the box and manual to this day.
That and PacMan are the only two games I had on the system. A beloved neighbor bought it brand new in the box from a yard sale and gave it to me around the the time the SNES came out.
Once we got that the Atari collected dust. We moved on and beat Super Mario World over and over again.
I still have a sweet spot for that game. Unfortunately the last time I dug the Atari out the controllers didn’t work any more.
Star Trek DS9: Crossroads of Time on Super Nintendo.
My favorite memory of it was from the first day: a friend telling me I couldn't use the same phaser twice against Borg drones. I was confident they wouldn't put a detail like like that in a game. Not two seconds later, the very next drone blocked my phaser. (Clearly one of Trek's ongoing lessons in the arrogance of man. Ahem.)
Seems silly looking back to think game devs wouldn't care as much (or more!) as I did about Star Trek to add in ideas like that.
I wish I could remember which, but my friend and I used to love one of the DOS games. The stories fascinated us and we loved trying to break the game. For the memories alone, it's still my favorite.
Growing up in the UK when Star Trek was big in the cinema but not so much on home computers, I had to make do with a few Trekalikes.
STAR RAIDERS - Atari 2600
This game was groundbreaking for its time. It came with a separate keypad that replaced one of the joysticks, enabling secondary controls at a push.
KNIGHT TYME - ZX Spectrum
A cartoonish adventure game featuring the hero ‘Magic Knight’. Sent to the future, he commanded a starship and beamed down to planets.
It was so good for its time. I loved it so much as a kid. I especially loved the portable pattern buffer being a great in-universe solution to explain how a game character can carry many different weapons. It fits so well into the universe that I half expected to see such a thing on the shows someday. It would have been too disruptive to plot development for the characters always to have what they need with them, though.
Thanks for the giveaway, amazing to see you in the fediverse!
Favourites Star Trek: Birth of the Federation (Master of Orion, but it's Star Trek) and Klingon Honour Guard.
I used to play a lot of Star Trek Online, but honestly that really felt like a job once you reached the end game, a joyless experience that made me feel like I was wasting my life.
I grew up with the Star Trek video game classics like Star Trek: Bridge Commander, Armada 2, Elite Force series, and Away Team. I'd say Bridge Commander is my most favorite of the bunch because it allowed you to be a captain in an actual bridge and the moddable aspects of it was spectacular.
I didn't actually get any Star Trek games until I was older. Have since enjoyed a few including Star Trek: Armada II, and Voyager: Elite Force. Have also had fun watching a playthrough of Star Trek: The Next Generation - A Final Unity.
I had 25th Anniversary, Judgement Rites, TNG: A Final Unity, DS9: Harbinger, and Birth of the Federation as a kid, but never got much into any of them, TBH. I also played the Star Trek Customizable Card Game a little bit.
As an adult, however, I've been playing Star Trek Online for a decade now, so by any reasonable measure that's my favorite Star Trek game by far (even if I'm not a fan of some of the perverse incentives it has, being an MMO).
Growing up I wasn't really into Star Trek games sadly. I grew up with Voyager in it's initial run, but I didn't really play any games until Star Trek Online. However, that game I've played since it was a closed beta, and lifetime subscription.
I started with Star Trek Birth of Federation played a lot with it. Later I really enjoyed Klingon Academy, Bridge Commander and Elite Force series. Armada was nice, but everyone else was playing Star Craft
I haven't actually played a real Star Trek game, but I did play Artemis Space Bridge Simulator, and that seemed really close. Super fun game if you have enough people to play it!
Not strictly canon, but I have fond memories of Apple Trek on the Apple II. Growing up I played Star Trek 25th Anniversary and Klingon Honor Guard. More recently I got the PS3 game based on the Kelvin timeline movies. But my favourite to date has been Star Trek Bridge Crew, I've really enjoyed the immersion of it.
Oh man, I would have to say Birth of the Federation, but I also love me some 25th Anniversary and A Final Unity. There was a stretch of some decent Star Trek games in the 90s!
I spent the early 2000s playing Star Trek: Armada and Voyager: Elite Force. Pretty sure you can get them on GoG if you’re looking for nostalgia and a good night of gaming.
Funny I never had much Star Trek gaming experience but have recently gotten into gaming more and been a lifelong Trek fan (maybe not an official Trekkie tho). this game looks pretty interesting and I'm now just learning about it since I also don't pay attention to the epic store!
Even Enterprise was over by the time I was old enough to understand Star Trek, which meant I wasn't really exposed to any Star Trek games until I was older, but I did play Star Trek Online! So Star Trek Online is my favorite! Lol
Judgement Rites and 25th anniversary. Judgement Rites was the very first game we bought for our first PC, actually. Had some absurd number of 2.5 inch disks...
I have only played Star Trek: Bridge Crew before, and I loved it and want to play more Star Trek games! Over the genre is great and the potential is endless.
The Star Trek games I played growing up were 25th Anniversary (the ship battles were too complicated for 11yo me), later on I used my own pocket money and bought Final Unity. The Chodak are still a very cool alien race added to the universe. Loved those frog faces in space suits. :-)
Played and finished Elite Force and Armada. Earl Boehn (RIP) as a main villain was a moment of teenage glee being such a massive T2 and TNG nerd.
Interested in Resurgence, my husband recently played it on his PS5 but I don’t go near that machine. 😂
Growing up there weren't a lot of Star Trek games. The closest thing I had was Trek on my IMSAI 8080 in the 70s as well as the Star Trek pinball game and then the Star Trek Arcade game in the early 80s.
In the mid 80s I tried Kobayashi Alternative which was a buggy mess that crashed perpetually, but did enjoy The Promethean Prophecy,
However the games after that overall just were pretty bad until Starfleet Command, in which I always enjoyed that series with III getting more hours than the rest. Elite Force series had some good (and bad) ones in it as well but nothing the RTS features of Starfleet Command always got me.
There is none I grew up with, so I can't name a favorite either. Neither did we own the platforms most of the games released on.
I only ever got into Star Trek later in life.
My favorite Star Trek game of all time was the video board game with the Klingon host. I had everything from the Nightmare games so this was the next logical step and we loved it to even though it was cheesy as all get out.
Favourite: Elite Force 1 and 2, being able to walk around inside Voyager/Enterprise was mind blowing.
But also a shout out to Star Trek: The Next Generation (SNES) which young-me sucked at so bad and found it hard as hell. My old man couldn't get through it either lol.
Wow! This is crazy! I actually just started playing Star Trek The Next Generation A Final Unity a couple weeks ago. I still have my actual copy. So many childhood memories! Hopefully you guys have a much better starship fighting controls, because a Final Unity's are terrible. Lol!
I played so many hours of Klingon Academy. Spent a lot of time just in ship battles. That was back when game manuals were huge. It had entries on all the weapons, their capabilities, everything.
Star Trek Generations was probably my first game but I was a bit too young for the puzzle solving and never was able to beat it back then. And Dominion Wars was another one. I guess I was primarily a ships battle kind of guy. Prepped me for games like Elite Dangerous and No man's sky. Glad they're making new space sims nowadays there was a drought for so long!
