[Woj] ESPN Sources: The NBA's new In-Season Tournament Final Four is set for December 7 and 9 in Las Vegas. Statistics will count for the league's regular season, except for the championship game of the event.
Interesting to see how this will develop, but not sure it will be as big a success for the league as the play-in (obviously because stakes). Still love that the NBA is so willing to play with their format with the intended benefit being for the fans as well.
I think you are right, I don't know if they will be able to top the play-in. Those games are must watch for me no matter who is playing. It is awesome they try different things cause if they find something just as exciting as the play-ins that would be awesome!
I can’t wait to see what this ends up looking like. I hope this leads to some bad blood between teams come playoff time. I hope these games get heated man!
I personally love this. People were so negative about the idea of an in season tourney... but what's the worst that could happen? The worst is that nothing changes and this tourney is irrelevant. The best case scenario is we get an awesome in season tournament and get a small preview of the post season.
This seems pointless. The season is already 8 months long for the best teams, there’s barely enough time for FIBA, Olympics, etc. Teams are going to lose on purpose to avoid this nebulous tournament and get extra rest for their guys. Just my 2 cents.
What an amazing opportunity to water down the product even more. I am starting to think I would have preferred to keep David Stern. What are we gonna give away for winning half the season? A mini Larry O’Brien? Ads on the jersey’s suck dude there’s more than enough advertising and I pay top dollar for merch, tickets, and concessions. Slapping ads on literally anything and everything is a little bit disrespectful to my experience imo. But oh! Another opportunity to do just that.
