Discussion: What have you been playing recently?

JRPGs tend to be long enough, so every session is a time investment for a game which is enjoyable or at least has some potential. Or you're just persistent enough.

Anyway, do you have anything to say about your current game or the ones staying in your backlog? Something you like, having mixed feelings about, strongly criticize? Your current progress?

It doesn't have to be a JRPG or even of Japanese origin, just anything reasonably related.

  • Currently working on the FFX platinum. Still need to get Tidus and Lulus celestial weapons but got Auron and Waka maxed out already and every character has their overdrive to AP weapons.

    So not too bad.

    • I don't know much about achievements in FF X but I've heard of that that meme challenge to dodge 200 lightning bolts in a row. Have you done it already?

      • Not yetโ€ฆ.๐Ÿ˜…

Thatโ€™s to get a part for Lulus celestial weapon.

Apparently someone built a machine using a 3D printer and a light sensor to automate it clicking the button every time the screen flashes! ๐Ÿ˜‚

      • I have done that in the past. It's not fun to do it.

  • I returned to Atelier Escha & Logy recently and have been having fun from seeing all these bizarre and expensive-looking costumes on characters. As if the guys and gals just were going home from a cosplay event and then suddenly went into the nearest forest to loot everything they could find.

I wish the game was a little bit harder, though. Not as hard as Totori in terms of time limits, but in the combat sense. You just breeze through everything without the bombs or healing items. Reyfer the H&M Cowboy and Kayla the Prussian General Willbell the Ordinary Magician, Threia the Balenciaga Historian and Logy the Furry

  • Still playing Final Fantasy XVI. Don't have much time for gaming right now, but that will change soon again.

    • Do you like the direction the series goes in? From ATB and power fantasy to the action combat and darker setting

      • What direction? For me i see no clear line of the series. We have currently the FF7 Remake series that i really like and we have FFXVI which i'm not a real fan of. FFXV and FFXIII are all different for me. So different directors of Final Fantasy do different thing, different battle systems. This series often does not the same thing again, sometimes succesful and sometimes not. FFXVI is obivously suscessful, but FF7 Remake as well, so both teams could do the next FFXVII/FXVIII of the series and they could present us different things.

Square Enix is not a fan of turn based systems anymore and they think action battle systems sell better, i think they wrong, as at the same time i think the battle system of FF7 remake is awesome and the one of FFXVI is well alright. I was a fan of FFXIII and FFXV was trash. It's a bit of a up an down and as long as they experiment with different things i'm fine with it. (note: turn based of FFX is way better than ATB, not big fan of ATB)

The style of FFXVI is a bit letdown for me, but the eikon battles are very stunning. So again up and down with it, but that doesn't mean FFXVII will be the same. Maybe i'm not far enough into the game but i don't think FFXVI is quite dark, it doesn't really need to show that much blood and sexual allusion, but don't really care. We had lot of dead people in FFX as well as in other game like FF7. (only FFXV horror part was so unnessesary)

I guess you refer mainly to FFXVI with direction, so sure, wouldn't like that so much. But i think FFXVI is still a very good game, just nothing i'm a big fan of. Yoshi P could maybe always do such kind of game, but he is not the only director of Final Fantasy games and his game are still not bad. Haven't played FFXIV, because the base game is so bad (opinion), but the expansions get very high scores from media. Yoshi P has success and will maybe a part of the series for a while, but not the only part and maybe not that strict to this one direction you maybe refer to.
