Two Hamas members kill three in morning rush hour attack
Attackers were brothers, shot dead at the scene
Attack comes on seventh day of Gaza truce
JERUSALEM, Nov 30 (Reuters) - Two Hamas gunmen killed three people at a Jerusalem bus stop during morning rush hour on Thursday, and Israel reiterated its commitment to wiping out the Palestinian Islamist faction, whose Oct. 7 killing spree triggered the Gaza war.
The attackers, Palestinians from East Jerusalem, were shot dead by off-duty soldiers and an armed civilian, police said. At least eight people were also wounded in the shooting.
"The terrorists arrived at the scene by car in the morning, armed with an M-16 rifle and a handgun," police said. "The terrorists began shooting at civilians before subsequently being killed at the scene."
Hamas, which is sworn to Israel's destruction, claimed responsibility for the Jerusalem attack, deeming it "heroic".
Israel's military actions are far too broad and far too disproportionate of a response. They should be allowed to defend their civilians though, however what they are doing now goes way beyond defense.
It's especially stupid because it hardens the Israeli people even more against hamas and makes them less willing to work with Palestinians when their government members do stuff like this.
That is literally the point. Violent extremist movements are directly incentivized to make peaceful solutions impossible so that they remain as the only possible option and thus retain power.

So long as one side is very deliberately planning and praising the explicit targeted murder of civilians, this isn't going to end.
Israel is absolutely doing a lot of harm and it's by no means any kind of angel, but what it doesn't do is this. There is a meaningful difference between collateral damage and deliberate murder of civilians (even if that's not going to be any consolation to anybody affected by violence, of course)
I may get downvoted for this, but I don't know that I fully agree.
Collateral damage implies there were valid military targets being struck.
I know Hamas doesn't exactly have bunkers and sandbags to shoot at, but the imagery coming out of Gaza looked a lot like an entire nation rolling up to a metaphorical bus stop and cutting loose.
There is nothing just about what Hamas is doing or did here, and I'm so tired of having to include this caveat. But using an entire military industrial complex to perpetrate the same acts on a horrific and unimaginable scale doesn't qualify as collateral damage.
I agree. Hamas is evil and needs to be stopped, but Isreal clearly doesn't care about civilian casualties. They don't even seem to be pretending.
This is the definition of over-retaliation. Like if you compare the severity of the atrocities, it's like Hamas slapped Isreal in the face, so Isreal grabbed a hammer and started bludgeoning.
Yeah Israeli leaders are planning and praising the explicit targeted murder of citizens. Netanyahu has supported Hamas for years because it delegitimizes the Palestinian state (and that source is The Times of Israel in case anyone thinks I'm being biased)
It boggles my mind that so many people don't see the far right Israeli government (that is so closely allied with America) is copying the George Bush War on Terror playbook.
I absolutely agree Hamas is a terrorist organization, but what the Israeli government is doing is far more sinister and evil. They're just playing the long game and hiding behind "collateral damage" so they can further their apartheid.
I mean can we mention that the Israeli military literally absorbed multiple terrorist organizations into itself with ribbons patches and metals for..... Killing mostly civilians in the name of Israel.
I wouldn't be so sure. Things are a little bit different than 1967, and more countries are condemning Israel's numerous war crimes than just those 5 countries
An Israeli civilian stopped both Hamas members and then IDF showed up and executed the civilian (with his hands up, surrendering) because they thought he was Hamas member.

Israel's Shin Bet security agency identified the gunmen as 30- and 38-year-old brothers who were affiliated with Hamas, which runs Gaza.
"The operation came as a natural response to unprecedented crimes conducted by the Occupation (Israel)," it said in a statement, citing the military offensive in Gaza and the treatment of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
Israel's far-right minister for police, Itamar Ben-Gvir, told reporters at the site of the attack that it "proves again how we must not show weakness, that we must speak to Hamas only through the (rifle) scopes, only through the war."
Blinken, on his third visit to the region since the war erupted, said Thursday's shooting was a reminder "of the threat from terrorism that Israel and Israelis face every single day ... My heart goes out to the victims of this attack."
The violence came as Israel and Hamas struck a last-minute agreement on Thursday to extend their six-day ceasefire in Gaza by one more day to allow negotiators to keep working on deals to swap hostages held in the enclave for Palestinian prisoners.
