The Biden administration's climate agenda is facing an unexpected challenge in drought-prone Corpus Christi, Texas, where a proposed clean hydrogen hub would require the installation of energy-intensive, expensive and potentially environmentally damaging seawater desalination plants.
For context, every molecule of hydrogen produced electrolytically requires splitting one molecule of water. This adds up to a lot of water
Why even build it in texas? Seems like huge oversight…
Because there's an existing chemicals industry there, which would be able to use the hydrogen to replace hydrogen from fossil fuels.
Ah, then it makes more sense. It will interesting to see what kind of solution will be chosen. Building plant near ocean and transporting hydrogen or maybe building water pipeline from the ocean? I just hope that wont result in no action at all…
