Left 4 Dead not launching on Steam with Proton 8.0
I'm new to Linux, using Kubuntu. I got Left 4 Dead 1 installed from Steam and I'm using Proton 8.0. I get an error saying "An error occurred while launching this game: invalid app configuration". Is there a launch option I should be using? Something else?
When in doubt check out Protondb, it's a database that says whether games work on Proton or not and people often put fixes there.

It seems like it should work but you need to right click the game --> properties then add
-w 1920 -h 1080as launch options.That's strange it works flawlessly on my SteamDeck. I can check what proton version it's using later today.
When it happens I usually run my steam from the terminal, some errors from the game would appear there
Try cycling through other proton versions as well. I don't really understand why some games will work on older versions and not newer ones, but it happens.
This is what worked. I had to go down to version 4.2-9 and it finally ran.

Any particular reason why you are using Proton? I believe there's a native version of it for Linux (or at least there used to be).
Left 4 Dead 2 has a native version, not the original Left 4 Dead.
I own it on Steam and it shows a Windows and MacOS version but not a Linux version so I went this route.
Steamdb says it has a Linux native client. If you don’t select a compatibility tool, the game should ran in its native version.
