I know this is a long shot, particularly as this is still a quite small subset of Canberra, but I was thinking about this the other day when heading to Bega.

There used to be an ostrich hanging out in a paddock at Billilingra as you went down the Monaro towards Cooma (where there's a nice long straight with hills at both ends). I haven't seen it for what would be a couple of years now, so I assume it eventually passed on - but perhaps it got ostrichnapped or something more interesting? And why was there a lone ostrich there in the first place?
