  • We don't technically need VSC, since other compilers and IDEs exist, and we don't technically need GitHub, since other gits exist. But, yes, they can totally destroy this ecosystem and, honestly, likely will eventually. Maybe I'm being cynical, but it does seem like something they would do...

  • Nothing is free. And in this case, VSC is just a tool for microsoft to gain market share
