Does a minimal Ubuntu install work out of the box?
I’m hoping that my new framework will be shipped soon so planning ahead. Is a minimal Ubuntu install sufficient for installing drivers or is a full install recommended?

It should be fine.
Usually the minimal will get you open source drivers. Full install is mainly going to add apps like Libre and the option to use closed source drivers like Nvidia.
