My pics from Carolina Raptor Center (about a dozen photos in comments)

Here's a few photos from my 2018 be trip here. Just phone camera pics, so nothing amazing. Seeing it in person was much better.

  • Peregrine, world's fastest animal

    • Beautiful bird. I remember becoming very interested in them after reading "my side of the mountain" iirc the book was about a boy who was living on their own in the forest (in a tree?) And trains a peregrine falcons to help hunt.

      • I loved that book so much as a kid! Living in the hollow tree and eating acorn pancakes!

Peregrines I hear have a very low hunting success rate. I'd liketo get a chance to see one hunt in person, I'm sure it would be impressive.

Love your user name as well, I was just reading about the Winged Hussars last night. A charge of 18,000 winged knights on horseback sounds like something right out of Lord of the Rings.

  • Sleepy Barred Owl

  • GHO shooting dirty looks for disturbing his nap

  • Chaco Owl. This was my favorite. I'd never seen one of these guys before.

  • Thanks for sharing all these photos!

    • My pleasure!

Have I posted anything near you yet? Pics are great and all, but seeing them in person is so much better. Raptors are really remarkable creatures any animal lover should experience up close.

      • I'm in the Midwest US, so a few! Outside of a zoo I've really only seen barn and hawk-owls - but I've lived in fairly populated areas which probably doesn't help my chances!

  • Pair of barn owls

  • Spectacled Owl

  • Barred buddies

  • Either a kite or kestrel

  • Some cool wood and canvas prints they had for sale in the shop.

  • Another hawk, sorry not good at IDing hawks.

  • Some hawks
