Well done Amsterdam! One councillor brought a motion to do this in my city, but it was disappointingly called "socialist" by the far-right party with a massive 20/27 seats, and voted down.
Bicycles don't have a speed limit in the Netherlands. Only electric bikes can't give any power any more above 25 km/h(but they are easily modified).
I hate it cycling and driving a car that some bikes go to fast in the city. (Mostly modified e-bikes and the classic sports cyclists) It's really hard to calculate there speed and just gives dangerous situations. For some reason they don't have the ability to give directions with there hands also.
It's been the speed limit in Dublin city centre now for some time. The logic is that collisions with humans are rarely fatal at that speed. Tbh it is slow but you're not exactly going fast within the city limits in old European cities anyway.
Outside the city it's normal speed limits here. 50 in towns. 80 most places. 120 on the motorway.
