AMC Canceled Screenings of an Anti-Trans Documentary After Backlash
'No Way Back' was originally going to play nationwide this week.
Good. The last thing we need right now is anything that perpetuates anti-trans garbage.

I'm glad they cancelled it in the end but still, ARGH.
Meanwhile, my local library is hosting a terf to give a talk about her book, and shelves terf books in the lgtqia+ section, even though this same library also does a great job of including a lot of queer books and comics in its collection and so on. There must be some sort of intralibrary war going on between the librarians here or something.
As someone who works in a library, as long as speakers follow the policies - which mainly focus on being non-profit, etc. - they are allowed to speak. As for the books, libraries order books based on what is popular, what is educational, and what is wanted by the area a particular branch is in.
The intention behind this is to ensure everyone has access to as much information as possible, regardless of what side it's on. Libraries are a place for people to get unhindered access to information and resources.
As my coworkers and I like to say, "A library should have something in it to offend everyone." It's a silly way of saying, we don't ban books and we don't limit access to books. Any books, from any author. To do so would go against everything we stand for.
As for shelving the terf books in the LGBTQ section, that may have more to do with the Dewey Decimal code of those books than it does with personal librarian choice. If its code is 547.6, it'll go with other 547.6 books, for example, regardless of the point it is making.
Who at AMC decided hateful, bigoted propaganda was ever okay to begin with? During Pride Month, no less.
It should not take backlash for a company to not participate in spreading hate and bigotry.
AMC is one of the most profit centered companies around. If they think it will make money they will play it. The backlash was enough that they felt it would hit their bottom line so they decided not to play it.
Is that why they were at a local pride event today? Are they trying to distract from that? ~Nai
Oh they needed backlash to realize this was maybe a tad controverse? Gee, who could have known?
