The offending comment was straight up just "x character joins a terrorist cell and y character is tortured to death by secret police"
If anyone is curious I was comparing the ending of the musical Wicked to the book. I even used spoiler tags and quotes :(
Bam, sitewide ban. It wouldnt strike me as so shitty if I hadnt been keeping tabs on a literal hate sub they havent done anything about for months that is inciting like actual tangible violence against LGBTQ+, Jewish, and Black people and is at the point now of just posting names they think are jewish from journalistic publications. Like genuinely wild shit.
Cant help but feel like it's fully mask off now so fuck spez, bye neo nazi hell, hello Lemmy. The enshittification over there ramped up the rage engagement and algorithm and its spiralling out, been a foot out the door for a while now and this was the last push.
Yup. I know the feeling. I was two weeks shy of 15 years on the site. Banned for a metaphor.
I actually stayed logged in and deleted every thing I posted that wasn't archived, even as the site kept kicking me out and refusing to load my profile pages..
Thankfully I'm a bit of a dumpster diver for computers and have a stack of old laptops that had active Reddit logins on them, so I switched up machines and took an entire evening and deleted everything I could.
Then I tried to delete the account and send along a "so long and thanks for the fish.." letter with it.. and it refused to process the account deletion and the next morning I found an automated response saying it wasn't computer generated and they weren't going to reinstate my account in spite of the appeal.. which I DID NOT send.
So yeah, it's being run with rage-bait bots now.
They're bouncing people and not deleting the accounts - likely to game the user base numbers for the investors.
Very fucked up.
But hey! Welcome to Lemmy - it's delightful here - and don't hesitate to post!
Are you me? I mean, I don't dumpster dive computers, but I nrver throw them out. I have a tech closet.
And got banned 2 years ago.
Yo this is the play though, im actively hunting old PCs to get RAM out of now :')
Possibly. Do you have a penchant for electronica?
Thanks for the welcome! I was surprised to see it's already a better environment. I havent been enjoying reddit for a while because you can almost see the wheels of the rage bait turning. Same as you I'm almost positive it's just enshittification becoming obvious now that they have to make a return on investments.
What I love here is that there's an old.lemmy.zip and it took me a bit to suss out how to subscribe to comms not on the .zip instance, but now I have a growing subbed list and am constantly finding new comms to join.
There's even a superbowl sub! Loves those birbs I do!
Can't wait to share my VintageApple and VintageIntelApple tutorials. I really hesitated on taking those down from Reddit, but at this point I decided it was time to be ruthless about it and lose the sentimentality. I'm here and haven't skipped a beat and it's so much friendlier.
This is what it was like on reddit before 2012.. just nice.
