Welcome to the General VN Discussion thread!

If you have something you'd like to talk about but don't think it's worth posting as a separate thread this is the place for you.

  • Did you start playing something new?
  • Are there any games you're looking forward to?
  • Are you looking for suggestions on what to play?
  • Do you have some feedback or questions about our community?

These and any other topics are welcome here - as long as they are VN or community related.

  • I see it more as jrpg or tactical rpg but apperantly some here post about it, so i play currently a hundred line: last defense academy. But i'm just a few days after the demo, so i think day 11 or 12. While i like the story so fast i expect it to keep getting more excited the more days i play.

    • hundred line definitely is closer to VN than strategy game, especially since you can skip practically all of the gameplay sequences after a certain point^^

    • Considering how much activity we have here I don't think anyone is going to mind talking about VN adjacent titles (I sure don't). As long as game has a decent ratio of VN elements it should be fine.

      • Some genres go hand in hand. Sometimes a game doesn't belong to just one genreand maybe such games are the reason to look into in this case VNs. I haven't played to much VNs, but since I played Digimon Survive, which is more VN than tactical rpg, I occasionally play a VN or at least look at upcoming

  • Still following MangoCake's Hundred Line playthrough! We're now at 30/100

I also started playing Hanako Game's successor to Long Live the Queen, Galaxy Princess Zorana! And I managed to barely survive until the election on my first playthrough. Of course I lost it by a mile :,)

  • I'm about to start Narcissu 1st & 2nd. It's a game I got at random when mindlessly browsing Steam two or so years ago but never really touched, leaving it for "a better time".

I don't have much to say about it yet, for obvious reasons, but based on the store description and user impressions I expect some sadness and ninja cutting onions throughout.
I hope to get back to writing impression posts again so I'll make sure I'll finish it in a reasonable amount of time and take notes - something I completely failed to do when reading The Villainess Just Wants to Eat!!.

This will be my second step in my preparations for "big boy" (in terms of length) stories like STEINS;GATE. My hope is to slowly get back into the rhythm of reading VNs instead of just longingly looking at them sitting in my library.

Will it work? Dunno, I'll give it a shot and hope for the best. That's all I can do after all.

    • Just finished Narcissu 1st. I love it but I'm not sure I'm strong enough to get through the 2nd part right now.

Story starts with a bunch of statistics on suicide in Japan - there's no beating around the bush, just a straightforward information about what to expect. There are small specks of happiness shining throughout but the whole thing is underpinned by empty sadness constantly lurking in the background. You know where this is going and so do the characters, and yet, this didn't make the journey any less emotional. Tears were shed, to say the least.

The whole presentation is very minimalist. Background illustrations cover about a third of the screen, conversations are pretty limited and short, voice acting, what little there is, is really solid. I think all of it fits the atmosphere and headspace of the characters really well. It's a well put together package.

That's all I have in terms of first impressions. I need to collect myself and stew a bit on the whole thing before I can write anything more coherent. It's great but it also hurts.

Oh, yeah! If anyone wants to join in on the pain train the game is available for free on Steam.
