Gives me a great mental image of any of those iconic boxing photos where one guy's face is turned to rubber, but they're replaced with Voldemort.

CQC skills would be handy for a stereotypical wizard. They'll never expect it! Conversely, no one would expect wizardry from an orc in boxing gear.
Wizard Boxing sounds kinda awesome, like chess boxing but with a special effects budget. XD
Yeah, and it becomes a lot more intuitive if you replace the word "boxing" with "kung fu" or some other eastern martial art term! In manga, fighters mixing martial arts and magic is completely standard.
I could see this being a thing.
Your gloves get enchanted before the battle with special effects, maybe during the battle you can enchant them further.
Otherwise it’s a pretty legit boxing game, just with wizards.
